boscov's and free jewlery

I just had a friend call and state that they recieved free credit for jewlery because they went to trade in their old jewlery for credit towards new however boscov's is for some reason not allowed to do such a thing any truth. If it helps any I live in new jersey. Sounds very bizzare to me but any comments or help would be appreciated.
