BREAKING : 7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Solomon islands, after series of tremors over 2 days

The epicenter of the quake was at a depth of 9km, some 23km from the provincial capital of Lata, the US Geological Survey said. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported no tsunami warning was issued.
It comes just one day after the islands were shaken by an 8.0-magnitude quake producing numerous aftershocks of between 4 and 5 magnitude. Five people were confirmed dead in that disaster, two of them children.­
The first quake was followed by a tsunami wave measuring 0.9 meters that caused substantial damage in the area of the Santa Cruz Islands.

My god these people are getting hit hard over the past few days.

My thoughts go out to all the people suffering from these quakes.

Apparently this is a serious of tremors.

No immediate reports of casualties or damages are available at the moment.

Can anybody link this to any sun spots?

There are already two very good threads on this series of earthquakes. Be that as it may, this 7.1 has already been downgraded to a 6.8. I'll grab the main links in a minute.

I can't find the other one handily, but that one was made by TrueAmerican by mistake when he was writing a post for his main thread, and then his "mistake" thread took off and landed as the main story on the front page. Strange times.

AGAIN!!!

I ceratinly hope that casualties are minimal. Positive thoughts to all those affected by this.

I don't see much of an "anomaly" in the SW Pacific but I do see that the TEC is following the Sun just like it always does.
