I dont see your point. I have said that I support welfare programs. But capitalism with welfare programs is still capitalism.

Only the elite participate in the free market. The rest of the people get what's given to them by the elite.

I'm with you to a large extent but one aspect of the problem in Hong Kong has to be the shortage of real estate. Somebody living on the margins in parts of the U.S. might be able to have a room somewhere instead of just a small part of a room. The article says 100,000 people in Hong Kong live in sub-standard housing. Which is bad but is only 1.5 percent of 7 million.

But even the most laissez-faire economies are "planned." There is some mechanism in place governing how the economy is going to operate and who is going to benefit. And historically an economy with capitalists calling all the shots winds up being as undesirable as an over regulated one.

I have said nothing to the contrary.

I did of course speak of planned economies as opposed to market economies (as one generally does), not as opposed to unregulated economies.

There's already a thread on the matter, and I've posted my opinion there as a Hongkonger.
