I'm rooting for the Blue Kachina.

Anyone who can say how long it will stay "hanging" there in the sky... are we talking days or weeks where it will be visible? I mean, it's not going to woosh by is it? Would love to get some video footage of it when the time comes.

Hale-Bopp wasn't visible in 95 (not to the naked eye anyway), although starting to become visible in 96, it wasn't until 1997 that it dominated our skies, I remember it well (same year as the UK got a major snow storm).

EDIT: I see where you are getting confused.....it was discovered in 1995 (and dubbed C/1995 O1), but it was still too far away to be seen with the naked eye.

2012 DA14 is an asteroid, not a comet.
It was at closest approach about three hours ago. There was nothing to see with the naked eye and little to see with a telescope.

Any chance of a quick summary of those videos? I'm dubious about investing my time into watching them. What is he saying in those videos?

[Edit] Watched the first few videos, and it was painful. The guy hardly has any idea about astronomy or how astronomy community works. Not gonna bother watching the rest. If he raises any valid questions, feel free to post them here and we'll answer them

By the way, it's the media that was saying ISON will be brighter than the full moon. Astronomers avoid saying things like that, as comets are very unpredictable.
