Don't believe that it will hit, however it is expected to bring some windy conditions as well as some weather and tectonic changes.

Um no that is not expected.

I really hope that people don't blame a windy day on that space rock.

Don't spread "really bad science" as facts.

At these speeds, even an object that has a very irregular shape will tend to carry on in a straight path due to it's huge momentum, and since any irregular parts are the first to be ablated away, quickly resulting in a more streamlined/aerodynamic shape.

Ahhh sooo... thanks Fireball. Keep looking up.

My B-day lands on that day! Should I maybe enjoy it on the 14th instead? Damn it! I just can't decide! Those damn pesky comets! Never know when those babies are going to come in and destroy mankind as we know it..!

Just going way out on a theoretical limb here....

The big quake that just hit, or if a bigger one hits and it knocks of of axis a bit like Japan.......could the comet pass us at a bad spot?

This is an asteroid, not a comet. I do not believe that any minute changes to the planet's axis equate to a change in its orbital position around the sun, and so this has no bearing on the object's trajectory relative to the Earth. Besides, even the great quake you're referring to only shifted the Earth's axis by nearly 10 cm.

Peace.

There is a video in the first link of the first post.
The First Video on that link mentions that an asteroid has hit
before that large and it was in 1908 the Tunguska event.

Which you can read about some of it here, link.

But this one will not hit us.

DA-14, and The tunguska event share no relations in dimensions and speed, nor their trajectory..

I'm really #ing tired of people trying to use this event as scare mongering.

The Tunguska Event had a minimum estimation of 100meters, and was a comet.

Da-14 is 45 meters, is an asteroid. No comparison.

Actually... The earths tides and gravitational pull DOES cause earthquakes on the Moon.. They are called Moonquakes.

Feb 15... You'll be watching.

Feb 15 I won't be watching, because I'll be doing something more productive like fighting wildfires in the West Australian outback and saving lives..

You know, the things that actually matter instead of daydreaming aboutt the end of the world..

Yes, The total mass of Earth is capable of causing effects on the moon. My point was a mountain by itself doesn't have a significant gravitational effect on the moon. I was simply trying to make a point. DA-14 does not possess enough mass to make any noticeable effect on the ground.

Wishful thinking, pseudoscience, mis-information and doom porn. That's all that is.

I'm tired of people fear mongering as well
Do you see anywhere in my post that says OMG IT WILL HIT US?

I do believe that I did state
this one will not hit us.

I just mentioned that the video stated, that at one time it is thought of
that one that size did hit us and this is what happened.

I disagree, I think it has the potentional to hit us and kill a lot of people. Even if it were to hit in the middle of the ocean, it would just cause a mass sunami that could wipe out 1/10 of the planet.

have not got time to read all the pages.

what are the chances our planet captures the asteroid and creates a small moon?

or slings it around the moon and back to earth and ----wham! bang! splash----tidal wave!!

Okay, I owe you an apology evil. I'm sorry I was so brash, I was tired and I see the " Tunguska " angle far too many times in almost every "Da-14 2012" thread so far.

If this object were to enter our atmosphere it would likely result in an air-burst if it didn't burst on contact with the atmosphere. It wouldn't be likely to compare to the tunguska event however. Most likely an extreme sonic boom... Maybe broken windows, light light property damage equivalent to storm winds. I just feel like this has been talked about so much, and really I could just stay out of it and likely will from now on. It's supposed to pass on by in a week or so, then it will be forgotten and on to the ISON doom threads. lol

Cheers Evil,

No hard feelings?

In regards to this, just hear me out for a second. This may be a little far out there... But I'm just brainstorming. Adding a few things together and thinking worst case scenario, and I'm VERY aware that the majority of people that read this are going to find a way to debunk this pretty quick... But a thought that crossed my mind is this...
So the money here in the u.s. is being withdrawn at a rate that hasn't been seen since 9/11; Anonymous just released that crazy video that has a collective theme in the background of trajectories and explosions and a suggestion of the fact that they know something is coming and the government isn't saying anything... (Watch it again with this in mind and listen carefully, you'll see what I mean as far as their wording goes); and this asteroid DA14 coming so close.
Now, we all know this asteroid isn't big enough for an ELE but we also know the governments and elites are concerned with overpopulation. They also have bunkers and safe houses all over to make sure that they would be ok should something happen.
Another thing that this asteroid could do is take out a satellite or two. That could cause just as much, if not MORE of an issue than the asteroid hitting earth. Communications, Internet, and financial systems could all be lost. It would be a mess.
Ok.. So you can say I'm fear mongering now, or crazy, or whatever you want. I'm not saying I'm right or this is going to happen. I was just looking at a few coincidences and thought I would throw this out there. I mean that's what this site is for, right? Throwing ideas off each other...

NASA isn't the only space agency, the US government doesn't have a monopoly on space observation. They may do better than many nations as far as getting out to space, but there are observatories the world over. You would know if it was going to hit. Some reputable evidence would be in front of your eyes from a professional observatory some where. Japan, China, Russia, Canada, Spain, France, UK, Germany, Mexico. .Etc etc. Observatories are EVERYWHERE, and NASA doesn't own them all, nor does the US government.

Anonymous loves their shock and awe, their choice of imagery and words are meant to create just that.

Well, that's what you tell her at least, "yes, honey, I swear it was so big, it was the size of Rhode Island! But they sent it through the atmosphere, which whittled it down to the 0.25 carat it sits at now. But you remember, I bought you a HUGE diamond originally!

And then after the date passes, what's next?

What Month, day, reason?

Give it up already. These false prophecies and/or predictions are always proven to be false but then...another pops up.

Whatever happens will happen and it won't be with a bang but a whisper. You want end of civilization prophecies? Look to real World events and stop watching the sky.

Peace

Its not really a prophecy now is it?

Its a real world event... He is suggesting that it could be closer and Nasa would not tell us, so it hits the conspiracy angle.

No more or less possible than say WW3 kicking off because of a situation going down in NK or Syria...

NASA has not lied on one of these yet, in fact all of their calculation have been exact.

I also seriously doubt NASA would lie and tell us the comet was going to miss if it was actually going to hit. Seeing that this comet would not be a extinction event if it did hit, they would be in some serious s$%# if it actually did hit
