A man kayaking off the Kona coast was attacked by a humpback whale. Slightly injured by the shattered remains of his kayak, the paddler was rescued by a small boat which had been summoned by a witness to the event. The whale was seen to approach the kayak and flip it into the air (with the paddler in it) with its flukes.

Or something.
The humpbacks winter in Hawaii for breeding as well as calving.

Apparently it was the whale which did the approaching. The critter was probably just fooling around.
