I am posting this in General Conspiracies because I have a connection that I am trying to work out.

First Anonymous hacked the USSC.Gov website which gained a lot of national attention. The government took the site down and, I assume, added more security, and then put the site back online. Anon then attacked it again and turned it into a game of Asteroids.

Now here is the conspiracy theory. A few people have made the comment that Anon IS the government and this is a sort of false flag attack. Now, here the US is going to increase their cyber defense "fivefold" in the next few years.

The Pentagon will dramatically increase its cyber-security staff to counter threats against US government computer networks, according to media reports.

Cyber Command currently has 900 staff members, both military and civilian.

Defense officials told the Washington Post, which first reported the staff increase, that the Pentagon had approved an expansion to 4,900 troops and civilians.

US Cyber Command, established three years ago, could grow as much as fivefold over the next few years.

Is this the government's reaction to the recent attacks around the world on various government sites and oil firms or does it seem like Anon hasn't done much as far as damaging attacks and this seems to fit the conspiracy that the government is Anon and using these attacks to increase their cyber division and maybe later crack down harder on cyber monitoring?

The Cybercommand upsize has been in the works for awhile now - particularly the AF branch - as it seems they are the ones being tasked with the homeland.

Asymmetrical warfare is evolving faster than they can recruit it appears.

It seems to me that 900 people can not monitor much, but 4,900 can. Not saying that they will direct all of their attention to the US population, but they would be able to definitely free up quite a few people to nothing else but monitor us.

What I do see is the government growing exponentially, like a virus. Before long, more than 50% of the populace in America will be employed by the government, if it has not already surpassed that. What better way to cut government spending!(sarcasm) This monster is getting way to big to be reined in.

The NSA has a tight enough grip on the monitoring side of things. Though they don't openly admit it ( much ) Cybercommand is focusing upon social engineering - IE forum spies, agent provocateurs, and things of that nature.

There's some references about it here, in a thread I did a few months back.

For the United States being a so called super power, our cyber defenses suck (bluntly put)....

We are so serious over here why not play a game of Asteroids? If anyone has payed attention to the Anon forums you'll get that joke.... Waka Waka.

And nothing is out of the realm of possibility w/ Anon being the Gov't, but I haven't done my research to say (I personally believe)

And for as much security they are looking to put in place, there will always be that preverbial genius that makes whatever improvments or defenses they make seem like lego blocks that are easily taken apart.

I could say that by expanding the Eye in the sky that much we are not far from what we have all been talking about on ATS, but i'll skip the Police State i'm talking about a Policed Nation, no privacy and everyone is a Terrorist.

Thanks for the OP, i'm going for a new High score in Asteroid now

I also wonder if Anon is the Government trying to fool people. I sure has heck did not want to download those secret files they had posted.

Homeland Security is growing their research department fast, though. Here is a press release from today:

CLEVELAND, Jan. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- SecureState, a leader in information security assessments and protection services today announced a Collaborative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Under this union, SecureState will work closely with DHS to improve the nation's overall computer network defense posture.

Julia Gillard, the Australian prime minister, announced a couple of days ago that the war on terror is over. The focus for Australian national security is now cyber-terrorism.
