What have they had now? 1 or 2 true long range tests of missiles? We don't even know for sure how successful they may have been or not been to their expectations. To hit Los Angeles they'd need a miracle of luck and first try success that doesn't really happen outside Hollywood movies, IMO.
New York would take God himself since their nation would need to be physically moved for the range to work.
I *DO* wonder where that 'failure' of a satellite went to though and what it's doing up there, if it's still in orbit. What orbit and how often does it cross the United States? I hadn't been paying attention because it really looked like more junk from a viability test they may or may not call a success as well.
That little crack about more though... Well... That would be a bad bad thing to see pop as a high order detonation in orbit. That would be a REALLY nasty thing to do. Japan and Pearl Harbor might be forgiven in historian's minds, perhaps. North Korea would have topped it by a long mile in dastardly deeds.
Of course, that's giving them truck loads more credit than I think they deserve given the system of oppression and stifling any kind of creative thought they have. It's not the place people come up with really audacious ideas to pull a shocker for the world. (His Father and the Korean War notwithstanding)

I agree. America will have the advantage and better military. But the favourite doesnt always win. Sometimes it makes them cocky and causes them to underestimate their opponent.
I dont doubt that America could win WW3 but I also wouldnt be shocked if they lost.
the new gen of nukes is Fission this was a fusion big difference in size of boom
By shaping the plutonium pit into an ovoid [like a small watermelon, smaller than a football], Livermore weapons designers were able to dramatically reduce the size and number of explosives needed to detonate the bomb. The The W47 was the first warhead in this new generation of weapons. Although it was only half as large as the bomb that leveled Hiroshima, but it had 80 times the yield.
(from your link)
But the successful firing of a three-stage rocket - after previous failed attempts, and placing an object into orbit - is a significant propaganda victory for Pyongyang over Seoul.
South Korea has tried and failed three times to launch from its soil its own satellites into space.
They have very long memories the North Koreans.
still think DPRK is all talk??? Revenge is why all the fuss and the wiliness to have war, is DPRK's true intentions.
When the DF-5 was first tested in September 1971, it had a range of 10,000 to 12,000 kms which allowed it to threaten the western portions of the United States. Beginning in 1983 the Chinese inaugurated the improved DF-5A, with an increased of over 13,000 km and a more accurate guidance system. The DF-5A upgrade increased the throw-weight of the system from 3,000 kg to 3,200 kg.
