take it from an old programmer, THEY are way ahead of you, it just depends on the amount of resources they want to expend on you.

Hated those days then, Now I kind of miss them. I got on in 1998 and it was fun messing with friends because they didn't know about computers. One guy I said want to see something cool? he goes yeah and I said if you hold down your power button for about 5 seconds something cool will happen. He did it and I started to laugh when he signed off.

Ok, now that is really weird. I have just found out about the existence of this "dark web", or "deep web" yesterday. Now I check ATS every day, and I have not been very active on here for a while. However, I find it incredibly coincidental that I have never seen any mention of the deep web on ATS and I had just discovered it yesterday from a fellow I met on Omegle. Now, the reason I bring this up is that I see a possibility that this may be some new trending thing going around, like the Sandy Hook conspiracy video that I get asked about on Omegle more and more out of the blue.

So, my theory is that the growing popularity of all of these topics that were previously unkown to most are becomming more and more commonplace due to things spreading through Facebook and chat rooms like Omegle.

Has anyone else noticed this strange new trend?

Nope, I check ATS every now and then, and saw this today, I've known about the dark web for ages, so no coincidence there.

If you check ATS daily, you may have noticed this thread yesterday (when it was posted), and then subconciously found out about it through however you found out about it. Nothing weird there.

Lol, no, I was not trying to insinuate that there was something weird going on, more just a trend. I surely did not see this thread the previous day, since that was one of the rare days I didn't check ATS. However, I did first discover the existence of the dark web from a person on Omegle the previous day. I had never heard of it before, at all. Then this thread was on here. I was more just trying to make sense of a coincidence. I now realize how ludicrous that sounded after reading it back. In any case, I was probably wrong anyways, but it WAS a coincidence nonetheless.

There are a few threads on ATS that discuss the dark web.

Just use the search function and type in - TOR

Ah, thanks for the reference, I will be sure to check those out. I guess that explains why I never have seen anything about it on here, since all of those were posted before I joined.

Ah, Tor. I downloaded it once upon a time. I want to say probably around a decade or so ago, but I'm not sure if it was operational or not then. My memory stinks that bad, yep.
I'd fiddled around with it & eventually deleted it because I couldn't figure the thing out
Needless to say, I haven't bothered since. My tech skills have gone up over the years, but I still doubt I could have it properly functional & secure even now.

Also, I'm surprised more people don't know about the Deep Web/Dark Web (or my personal fave moniker--the Black Ocean) I've been hearing about it from people of all types for ages, I assumed it was borderline common knowledge these days. I guess not.
Like I said, since I never got Tor up & running, I've never personally ventured there. Definitely curious, but I lack the confidence & skills to go securely. Over the years, I've heard rumors of a rockin' mother of all conspiracy boards being one of the invite-only playgrounds. If I ever feel I have both a good enough grasp of Tor & can hermetically seal my computer security-wise, I'd love to try to sniff that one out.

Oh, one other thing. How come any conspiracy or leaked info isn't brought over from the Deep Web to ATS? I'm sure we've got enough users able to sail that sea competently to confirm it isn't sourceless bunk on a dead-end address.
