Questions, body armor and felons in texas need help finding out info.

So I live in texas and I am trying to get this job at an online retailer who sells body armor I would have to pack it and ship it and stuff but not own it or buy it just work there.

They want to hire me and are happy to do so and like my resume and experience with computers and stuff.

They aren't sure if they can and want to do some research and I am trying to do some aswell so I can help the process along if I can work there so I can find out ASAP if its legal so they can give me a green light or not to work there.

I have been reading and all I can see if if you are a felon you cant posses body armor.. Does that mean I can't own it or I can't touch it at all or what, does anyone know how I can find out for sure about this or who I could call that could answer this question?

I am located in TX so only texas law would apply here not from other states.

If you are a felon and were released on parole the best avenue would be to ask your current/former parole officer as he/she would have access to those conditions at his/her fingertips. If it IS permissible they would be able to sign a statement attesting to such that you could present to the perspective employer.

Why not just call the local Texas Department of Public Safety office? It's not as personal as the local police department and how close they live to you figuratively if not literally. They'd definitely know the answer though as they be one possible to send out an officer/ranger enforcing such a thing.

I'd trust them to give a plain, straight answer a whole lot more than local cops too.

I would assume its ok to work there. Bartenders only have to be 18, even though they can't drink until 21. I'd make a few phone calls to be sure, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't let a felon have a legitimate job. Good luck

Sad to say you can't touch as in possession is in possession here in Colorado you would not be allowed to be in the room with out it being behind lock as with weapons. If THEY walk in then they can't tell who was "in possession" of it means you can't work in a gun shop either...

OMG seriously i have talked to like 10 people and no one can give me a straight answer they are like well you arent possessing it that is what the austin tx legal department said they told me to call the DA in the town that the business is located...!!!>>

The best way to find out is ask a peace officer, aka officer of the law.

The law states that if you committing a felony WHILE wearing body armor, then the possession of it is a crime as well. If you are not using the body while committing a crime, you may own, possess, and wear it.

no a felon cannot buy it.. the guy that wants to hire me already know that he cant sell to felons, you cannot own it, if you commit a crime while wearing it felon or not you will get a felony for wearing it also..

and no as I have come to find out 3 cops later you cannot simply ask a cop because they do not know either.. Interesting how they do not know the laws themselves..

I have talked to like 20 people now and just get the run around, the attorney office at the austin public safety said its cool because im not owning it but they said to check with the DA of the county that the store is in and they wont answer me and told me to talk to legal aide who I cant get anyone on the phone...

bureaucratic BS is all it is... either its against the law yes or no its simple, hello cop would you arrrest me if im working there, yes or no? why is it so hard.

I am not a violent felon I have 3 class h felonies for obtaining property under false pretense.. I am not on any probation or parole or anything I had 2 years of probation and its done.

So would that mean that I can work there then since its not mine and I have no violent charges of anything?

I have literally called 15 different people today and emailed 4-5 and still have no answer on anything
