Facebook liked something they were doing and bought it...who cares?

Facebook is a business, and they will no doubt do whatever they need to in order to keep people interested in their crappy product.

In The Social Network, which is based on the story of the rise of facebook, the founder gets the idea for facebook by comparing two faces and having people vote on which is hotter. There's an algorithm to keep track of scores and weight results based on probability of winning etc.

It could be something like that. Since facebook can use any pic you upload as if they own it, they could be using face.com as a "rate my face" kind of site.

Or it could just be that face.com were cutting in to their business.
