John Peel, veteran radio presenter and DJ, has died suddenly on holiday in South America.
John and his wife Sheila were on a working holiday in the city of Cuzco, Peru when he suffered a massive heart attack.
John Peel had a broadcasting career that spanned 40 years and was known for supporting emerging bands.
Peel used to manage Marc Bolan, he played Bowie's Heroes in its entirety on radio when he got it, and he would send postcards to a long list
of acquaintances as he travelled. Not this time from Cuzco.
I have maybe 50-60 Peel Sessions albums, many artists would do their best live work when they were scheduled with John Peel.
I was quite shocked to hear about this today, I'd never realised that he was 65! Still no age at all though.
It's going to be strange not having his voice overs on some of these fly on the wall documentaries that he'd been involved with lately.
