Hi guys could you please help me find a HD PVR? i dont know how to choose what is best by the few ive found in my price range and to be honest im useless with this type of hardware i have no clue. BTW id rather have one that doesnt need a power source with all my plug sockets being taken up already but if i can get a better PVR with it i dont mind. I know the elgato has good reviews and not many bad accept people who dont know how to set it up, the Hauppauge HD PVR V2 has alot of bad reviews for the software screwing up and the HDMI ports. The roxio HD PRO seems good to me but theres alot of people saying to avoid it for the software being insanely bad. The avermedia game capture HD seems another good choice but the fact id have to buy a HDD along with it puts me off

I have the ElGato and love it, chose it over the Happauge for the reason you stated, too many bad reviews really.

With the ElGato, you only have the usb cord, the hdmi in/out, thats it, the packaging comes with 1 hdmi cord.

The software you have to d/l from a site, its not a big file. It has the option to go back in time and record something that already happened, on my PC, the farthest I have been able to go back is about an hour. Cool feature. The editor in the software is pretty basic, but doable none the less. Software also has upload ability straight to YT and also has built in streaming for Twitch.tv, very easy to set that up and get going.

File size, for about an hour worth of 720p recording its about 7gbs, 15mins about 2gbs, 1.5mins = 180mbs. The software shows the mb/min though while recording.

Wow that does sound good, elgato and roxio are the main id like because the lack of wires with my xbox, tv and pc theres alot of wires around so would be nice. I cant find many bad reviews about the elgato and the fact its small, portable and like you said keeps a hours worth of gaming you can re-record. Just one question does it record the first hour of gameplay and keep it or does it keep recording and delete the first hour and show the last hour of you gaming?

Its like a buffer for the last hour or so, I am unsure how far back you can go, like I said on my PC its about an hour +- some. Could be dependent on how much mem you have, not sure and nothing that comes with it says how much.

Basically as soon as you have feed coming through it, the elgato buffers that video, it has a slider in the software where you can slide back (in time) and press record and it will start recording from that point onwards and instantly starts recording from where you are at, so that is why I say its like a buffer, always buffering in the background waiting for you to rewind and record.

Again the only wire are the USB (which is the transfer and power cord in 1) the hdmi in and hdmi out.

Check this review, www.youtube.com...

I paid about $150 or so, purchased from Amazon.com

PC... Well the elgato is HDMI in and out, I guess you could have DVI and need a connector so in theory yeah it would work.

PC ------ ELGATO ------- MONITOR
