today there seems to be a lot of questioning about things like shooting/murder sprees. a lot of us have been asking why. some people put the blame squarely on inanimate objects such as guns. others are thinking that the problem is caused by violence portrayed in entertainment media such as violence in movies and on tv shows, ultra violent video games etc.

it is something that is becoming a serious problem seemingly world wide. we have the us school shootings. mall shootings in both Canada and in the us. school knifing sprees in china. and many others that we are hearing about. where someone goes on a rampage killing as many people and or kids as they can before generally killing themselves. i am not referring to the standard terrorist attacks like people who like to strap bombs on themselves and blow themselves up, as that type of thing normally seems to have some sort of organization behind it and so is a different thing altogether. what i am referring to is the ones becoming so common where normally ONE individual seems to go off their rocker and goes on a rampage.

counting an inanimate tool such as a gun or knife as the problem is just silly. sure in the states where guns are not only readily available to a lot of people, are fairly easy to use AND glorified in media and video games, they are the weapon of choice for these crimes. but other weapons CAN be used as well, as such guns are really NOT the problem. the problem is WHY people are acting in this way, with such seemingly increasing numbers.

violence in media MAY be a contributing factor. the fact that you are rewarded for killing in games. and the seeming glory attached to killing in other media. but violence in media goes back a very long way. from old pirate tales and dime store novels through to movies and now tv. so while being a possible contributing factor i again don't believe that it is the real problem, otherwise such things would have been happening all along.

then we come to mental illness. i think THIS is a part of the problem, but not in the way that most people would think. again if that were the case it would have been happening virtually forever since mental illness has also been around forever. don't get me wrong mental illness HAS been a factor in violence, and is likely a part of what has been going on.

now before i get to what i think may be at least a big part of the problem, lets look at psychopaths. i have heard what really makes a psychopath is the inability to empithise.

Psychopathy (/saɪˈkɒpəθi/[1][2] is a personality disorder that has been variously characterized by shallow emotions (including reduced fear, a lack of empathy, and stress tolerance), coldheartedness, egocentricity, superficial charm, manipulativeness, irresponsibility, impulsivity, criminality, antisocial behavior, a lack of remorse, and a parasitic lifestyle. However, there is no consensus about the symptom criteria and there are ongoing debates regarding issues such as essential features, causes, and the possibility of treatment.[3]

en.wikipedia.org...

i think the key parts are shallow emotions (including reduced fear, a lack of empathy[i], and stress tolerance). i think this is a definite key to understanding the problem. i would think most of us would agree that Psychopathy plays a huge part in the problem.

now what has really changed in the way "mental disorders" and even so called "social disorder" are treated today? we no longer just lock them up, give them electro shock therapy etc (this is a good thing). in post cases any more you don't even really talk to a pycologist about the problem and how to deal with it. no instead most likely you will be put onto medication. i think that THAT is likely where the main issue may come from. one of the forms of medication they give you is called SSRI.

what IS SSRI?

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor

Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors or serotonin-specific reuptake inhibitor[1] (SSRIs) are a class of compounds typically used as antidepressants in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, and some personality disorders.
en.wikipedia.org...

some side effects that i think are particularly disturbing

Nervousness, agitation or restlessness Reduced sexual desire or difficulty reaching orgasm Inability to maintain an erection (erectile dysfunction)
www.mayoclinic.com...

extremely vivid or strange dreams

increased feelings of depression and anxiety (which may sometimes provoke panic attacks) mania and psychotic disorders

suicidal ideation (thoughts of suicide)
en.wikipedia.org...

from personal experience you also seem to LOOSE most EMOTION. things that SHOULD bother you DO NOT for example. now looking back at Psychopathy, we see shallow emotions and lack of empathy (yet another EMOTION) are part of the problem, as we can see by some of the "listed" side effects that emotions are rather suppressed by this drug, then add on "thoughts of suicide" this is deeply trubleing. is it really that much of a stretch to think that perhaps these DRUGS being used, as a "quick fix" instead of trying to help the person sort out their truble, may be a MAJOR factor of the problem?

then add in the glorification of killing through things like entertainment and video games on top of that. what in most people STOPS people from committing such acts is EMOTIONS like empathy, pity, remorse, etc. added with a drug that PURGES such emotions is it any wonder that we have the problem we are facing?

good start of a list, I would like to add:

PORNOGRAPHY - I'm 49 years old - when I was growing up, maybe you saw a Playboy, or maybe a Penthouse, some adults had some VCR tapes that kids could get ahold of: Even a cursory glance at the mind-boggling array of de-humanizing porn one can find on the internet - if you think your 13 year-old hasn't seen XXX-rated porn at their friend's house? at school? in the library?

I think it's really sad, that a beautiful thing like sex is being pushed on young children at such an inappropriate age and in so many demeaning ways.

I believe this is just another of the many things bringing our society down.

People like to blame it on video games and movies. I think it is more MSM. They always make a killer infamous. His name and crime is spread around like wildfire. Low life or mentally ill persons see this to get their name immortalized. Maybe even a cool nick name. MSM reports should read more like. Scumb killed this many at this place. That is all.

actually it's not all that far off. i myself have made the same sort of statement that things like msm making the perpetrator and crime famous along with things like posts on social sights feeding the "stardom" of the killer even a Facebook game has added to it with a pop up to send "condolences to the families" all this just hypes it up, and possibly gives some people the REASON to commit such a crime for the "fame" from it. so it adds another way we seem to be creating psychopaths.

the thing is it is likely a combination of a lot of factors like this that are causing the issue. if we ever want to try and fix things then we need to consider all real issues that effect it. one reason that i am so ticked at all the anti-gun hype that some people seem to think would make the whole thing just go away. it takes away from discovering what is really happening by giving an oversimplified solution that in the long run will not do any good.

A very good point!

Pornography almost certainly contributed to this lad's upbringing...

WARNING - video contains alleged mentally deranged sex offender laughing about rape.

It most certainly is. The result of a sickness brought about by a society driven by greed and selfishness.

I believe society itself fosters and promotes psychopathy, but it does not make psychopaths,
being surrounded by all mentioned above, I do not have any intent of taking out aggresion or any psychopathic tendencies towards my fellow man.

It is all of the above. A society where anything goes as long as you are having fun. A society that is concentrated on self, with no concern of the consequences to others. A society that see's rape/torture/murder as a form of entertainment. A society that shares a video of rape for entertainment on their I-Phone. If our children are our future, we are screwed.

If you are led by psychopaths then chances are you will follow that lead.

Yeah, most of these mass shootings were carried out by people taking psychiatric medications. I always roll my eyes when gun control advocates start talking about how we need more "mental health" for people. Guns have been around forever in America. How many senseless mass shootings were there before anti-depressants became such a booming industry?

You know something, I noticed that this was a video full of teenage boys (males). Look folks, I know were living in the "Enlightened" modern ages and we have a strong collective moral perspective that base human actions of rape and murder doesn't seem like they fit in our squeaky clean world. But guess what? They are as ever present and actualized as they were when we were living in mere huts. This is the nature of the human condition. I don't care if you dropped these kids in universe that consisted of nothing, but Sesamee street characters singing "Kumbaya" all day long, you would still get a bunch of unsupervised testosterone males willing to do anything outside of societies moral boundaries to accomplish their personal and carnal desires. It is just the nature of man. Being "shocked" or "outraged" will accomplish nothing and reveal only your naivete. So let's all just buckle down, do are best to watch over the mentally ill, continue to promote a culture of order and decency, say something if you see a situation going south and provide the necessary punishment when things like this inevitably happen. It is just human nature, so lets all just be more vigilant. Period.

that's where the "drugs" come into play, they remove the very things that keep most of us from "doing". sure most of us would not commit many of the things we see and read about and do in a video game. that is because we have "emotions" such a empathy and sympathy for other people. but take away such restraints as these drugs cause and what is there to stop you? when you are on these drugs you just don't care about anything. it is actually a scary feeling when you realize what these drugs take away. it's hard to explain. sure it may help you get over feeling depressed, but at the same time you can not feel happy either. you just become like a good Vulcan (without their strict ethics codes or anything), more of a robot than anything. you just sort of exist. no sorrow, no joy, no love, no empathy towards others etc. you could run over someone in your car, but you just won't care and keep on going. not because you might get in trubble or anything, just because you aren't effected by it, like running over an ant or something.
