Wait....That's somebody's face on the codice? Could have fooled me

The image is of Helios, though this provides a template sometimes for representations of Christ in early Christian iconography...certainly no portrait but an idealized form.

Read about Mithras (born of a virgin on December 25th, had 12 disciples and a last supper, died on a cross, followers slaughtered bulls and ritualistically drank the bulls' blood) -- very different from the highly advanced white sorceror the Gnostics honored, before they were killed off and/or driven underground.

Many depictions of him existed; some artsy fartsy "high concept" art, others artistic renderings influenced by the very bloody Roman hijacking of his image/likeness.

The equal sided cross was used by the Essenes, by Jesus, and by the Gnostics to represent the ideas he espoused, which are basically what indigenous peoples/pagans/shamans have also espoused -- the equal sided cross (or "Celtic cross") represents the perfect balance between life in the physical plane and life in the spiritual plane, where you keep one foot firmly grounded in each so as to live a full and balanced life.

Me, I like that!

The earliest depictions of Christ, show him beardless. This may be Gnostic, in which case we may have a depiction of John The Baptist. Much depends on the translation of text.

there should be a name on there..."savior of Israel" could be anyone.

I heard messiahs were even less than a dime a dozen during the era.

Is it jesus ?? not sure yet,when they deciper the text we'll know a little more hopefully,it would be interesting if i did get decipered & it did turn out to be jesus though

I hate to say it though, but isn't everyone overlooking the obvious with images of Jesus? Given that there were no cameras during his day and that no paintings seem to exist of him from when he or anyone who would have actually laid eyes on him was alive, all images of him are just from peoples imaginations.

The only artifact that could possibly show his true face is the shroud of Turin . Unfortunately however it is such a controversial idea due to the carbon dating scandal that it could be regarded as a 50 / 50 shot at best. (Hint for those who are interested, research the latest theory re the carbon dating problem and a possible repair on the shroud that may have changed the results)

I also heard many reports that they are possibly fake. I'm not completely sure if they are or not.
