From Dog Farm to Soup Bowl

This makes me sick....

This is a typical (and highly illegal) dog farm in a Korean countryside. In the city, people raise dogs in smaller numbers, nearly as pets, and then sell them to dog meat traders. It is easy to deceive the dogs and gain their trust, only to betray them in the end....

It isn't just Korea, MM: dogs are esteemed in China.
If you go past one of the Korean restaurants, the dogs are usually outside tethered or caged (or both) and diners pick the dog (they're too expensive to be killed beforehand).
These shocks are not confined to the East: many English, for example, find the French taste for horsemeat repulsive.

And foreigners do tend to say out here that the Chinese will eat anything with four legs - except the table.

And, without wishing to dwell on the unseemly, perhaps the saddest places out here are the bear farms. Bears are highly valued in traditional medicine and the beasts are raised in chains for the slaughter: so that a rich man may have bear paw.
Judge not lest ye be judged, I suppose and one recalls the Muslims' and Jews' horror at pork - but these are shocking to Westerners.
