Saturn From The Dark Side.

Tried searching for this, but if i missed a similar post, mods, feel free to delete.

Was perusing Message To Eagle and discovered this little gem.
I love it, all the searching for extra-solar planets and ours still throws up a gem from time to time...
Why are we going to Mars, when the Gas Giants are way more interesting..

At least we can land on mars, we cant do jack with gas giants apart from photo them.

We can (hopefully one day) land on their moons. Jupiter's moons Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, plus Saturn's moons Titan and Enceladus seem every bit as interesting (perhaps even more so) than Mars.



By the way, neither Saturn nor Jupiter are "all gas". Both planets are thought to have rocky cores -- cores that are several times larger than the entire Earth. If you strip away the outer layers of Saturn and Jupiter, you would end up with rocky planets that are even larger than Earth.

However, those rocky cores are so deep and the pressures at that depth would be so great that there would be no way for us to send a probe there -- not with our technology, nor even with any foreseeable technology.

The beauty of space is stunning. Wish I could just float around in space and witness the beauty with my own eyes, not just through lenses...

I was quite impressed by the Mount everest 2 billion pixel picture, but this is absolutely jaw-dropping!

Nice pic. What I wonder I if the interior of a gas giant has what amounts to its own Goldielocks Zone, where the ever increasing pressure creates an area hospitable for life

I don't know why but these Saturn photos we've been seeing, with the exception of the "vortex" photograph, seem inherently fake to me.

In my opinion the black and white vortex ones seem like the only ones that actually look like they couldnt've been done with computer software and cgi.

As they say, its NASA, who knows?

Perhaps you could be more specific? This photo is a composite including non visible wavelengths, so if you think that's 'fake' then perhaps it is. It is however really Saturn and really taken by Cassini. You can view thousands and thousands more here: saturn.jpl.nasa.gov...
