It's the first time a UK Monarch has attended a cabinet meeting since Queen Victoria.
Number 10 says she's just there as an "Observer" to commemorate her 60 years as head of State.

Alternatively, Cameron may have a well illustrated powerpoint demonstrating exactly how the world is going to end and didn't fancy breaking the baddest of bad news at the palace on his own.

I'm sure there's nothing to worry about (dont think it's Camerons style to do a suprise reptillian reveal) but it is a curious occurance of state meeting legislature in a place they dont usually meet.

What does this mean:

"her diamond jubilee year"

Sounds almost biblical or something?

Nah it's just a term borrowed from wedding annivarsaries starting at paper ( for 1 year together) and escalating through percieved worth to Diamond for 60 years.

In the UK we had a big celebration called the Diamond Jubilee...it's nothing compared to the rarity of occurance of Queen going to cabinet meeting.

Maybe the Pope will pop in.

Jubilee is an anniversary or celebration (Jubilee = jubilant / happy) , the diamond part just means it's a 60 year anniversary.

It is very unusual for a monarch or any Royal to sit in on a cabinet meeting though OP...wonder what the real angle is?

World Doom by Power Point? Oh now I've heard PP used and abused for everything. lol....

"And in this next slide, I'd like to show where the little buggers in America finally fall into the pit of internal stench and just in time too!......"

".....for in the last slide, we slide in right after them! Lights please!"

yeah... That would be a real barn burner of a presentation for the Queen, eh?

'And here your Majesty is the route we'll be taking to the underground bunkers while the rest of the plebs watch the fireball arriving...we should be just fine'.

She has seen 12 PMs during her reign and hopefully she has seen that DC is the worst one and she wants to turn up and kick arse
.

To me, and many others, the relevance of her attending this meeting would be greater if we actually cared.
We don't.

Does the press sit-in too or is it a behind doors meeting, in which case why do it at all?
If no Press, then it does sound like some sort of funny business.

The word relevance doesn't mean what you think it means.

I could be wrong, but Cabinet meetings are private - although minutes are taken and are made eventually available. This might be an open session though.

This said, the Jubilee year is significant because of Liz's long reign, so I'd imagine it's literally nothing more than the cabinets 'expressing their thanks and congratulations' etc. This year marked (iirc) the fact that Liz became the second longest reigning monarch since Victoria, so that might well explain why she's the first to attend since her.

Some people- mainly Americans- got all conspiratorial about the Queen addressing the United Nations a couple of years back, but in the end it wasn't a big deal.
This won't be a big deal.
In fact I doubt if any really important decisions will be addressed. It's a social occasion without the drinks.
