A man is stranded on a desert island. His radio battery has long died. His cell phone as well. He awaits rescue. A plane flies over head.
He lights a fire to get the planes attention.
The plane ignores it. The pilot remarks, "Humans don't use fire to communicate. They use cellular phones and satellites."
The man dies on the island.
A lot of assumptions here that the detected signal was an attempt at communication. I could have been an alien ship rebooting its computer. A childs
toy. A teenage alien peeling out in the Space Dairy Queen parking lot.
Just because an alien would have the tech to bend time, space, gravity etc. ... doesn't mean it would never, ever, ever, EVER have use/need/etc. for
electromagnetic/radio signals.
