Since this got bumped I'll say what I thought when I first read this thread.

I admire the technique and intellectual firepower used to debunk this, but using Occam's cutting edge goes both ways. The simplest answer is that weird sky vehicles (or objects) were over Germany that day.

Having seen a large cylinder overhead myself that was most certainly not a reflection or standard light anomoly, that seems the most logical conclusion.

What about all the ufo orbs in the picture? These things are real and documented through our civilizations history. You can not debunk the orbs. The picture is a pretty good depiction of the orbs. There's loads of them.

I believe this is abstract art that depicts " A Battle" being fought but on solid ground and not an aerial one.
The large black "Arrow" depicts just that......an archers arrow. The orbs are in fact cannon balls, and the cylindrical objects are the barrels of the cannon.
The sun depicts the battle was fought on a bright day, the fire depicts burning of either property of fields and the crosses depict the battle had something to do with religion.

The orbs are cannon balls? The orbs in the picture are all sorts of colours, just blike the ufo orbs, yellows, whites, blues, ambers, etc. Cannon balls are not coloured, with all respect the orbs in the picture are genuine ufo orbs, not man made cannon balls

Sorry but no convinced.
As i think this is an abstract painting, there is no need for the artist to colour the cannonballs all the same. Painting in abstract allows for the artists own interpretation.
Also if you notice, there are "orbs" as you call them, linked together in groups of four. I believe those depict grapeshot.

But the artist is not abstract in depicting a very real phenomenon, ufo orbs of different colour. The picture is quite accurate, orbs come in many different colours. All that OBOL stuff is just silly, these balls come in many different colours.

Looking at the grape shot idea, not so sure there, we really do get groupings of ufo orbs, check out my avatar - ufo orbs do indeed cluster

Nice try, but no cake this time.

"spear, very long and thick, sighted; the shaft pointed to the east, the point pointed west" is the original quote.

Where as you conviniently changed it so thatit suits your needs - namely, that the spear is pointing to the east.
The event occured at sunrise, so, if there would be a hill or mountain top to the east casting a shadow over the sky creating an apparent "spear", the spear would be pointing to the east with the tip, and with a shaft at the west. But in case of Nueremberg, it was quite the opposite, with point to the west.

Not to mention you completely forgot about
- objects gathering
- objects started fighting
- objects crashing to the ground in smoke
- lasting for 1 hour ...

Today anybody can take a bunch of their ideas and slap a "Debunked" on them, and voila, they become a credible scientific member of society. Not so.

Bumped.
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see it mentioned that this woodcut was made 5 years after the date of the "event" and made by an artist that wan't in Nuremberg for the "event."

I am convinced that this case was a mass misidentification.

I utilized some astronomy tools to check that area of the sky, on the date in question.
I explicitly checked from around 2AM local time for Nuremberg all the way through 10AM, what people in Nuremberg would have seen, looking towards the sunrise horizon.

Multiple bright stars, multiple planets, a crescent moon, the sun itself, all OVER the horizon line from around 5:30~AM to 7:00AM

Lots of astronomical activity, this is a world without light pollution, this is a world without widespread astronomical knowledge, this is a world where no one will tell you that if you stare at bright stars, the moon, or the sun, for a few minutes straight, you're going to get some dots and rods in your vision.

I'm not accusing these people of any mental deficiency. Operating on the knowledge available to them, in the time period, this much activity in a rising morning sky could very easily be interpreted incorrectly.

On top of that, I have a hunch and personal opinion that the "news" recordings of these events, are news of the "entertainment" variety. AKA, I think these are the equivalent of an ancient MAD magazine article, or satire/hyperbole newspaper. I don't have direct evidence for that, but if you consider that they drew a literal face on the sun in solemn seriousness, you don't understand the artwork of the old gallery of Paris and the pre-impressionist movement.

I don't think these depictions were meant to be technical records.

well this is an old thread, i never previously saw it. debunked? sundogs and halos don't leap about the sky chasing each other. undebunked, and a frankly preposterous explanation.

Hmmm...maybe.

The carving itself could be just an over exaggeration of such natural phenomenon, and made to look it was some epic clash of sorts. It does look like Star Wars, I mean it even looks like Darth Vader was there with that spear looking like his Super Star Destroyer.

Especially for a time that fantasized about giant dragons flying down in the sky, invading kingdoms, eating children and kidnapping woman for some reason that I don't want to know, to even hording gold even though it can't spend it.

I find it likely though that Fall Streaks are what Apep/Aphois that tries to swallow Ra actually is or based off in Eygptian mythology.
