The draft handbook offers a list of "taboo conversation topics" that soldiers should avoid, including "making derogatory comments about the Taliban," "advocating women's rights," "any criticism of pedophilia," "directing any criticism towards Afghans," "mentioning homosexuality and homosexual conduct" or "anything related to Islam."

I understand that the current US administration believes that tolerance and appeasement have to be a part of any exit strategy from the afghan war, but why would any american come up with this draft?

Why should any American solder be expected to comply with something like this?

Seriously?

Ignore the sexual abuse of children, and the brutal oppression of women?

WTF?

Given the sheer polar opposites in western and Afghan culture and language, it makes sense for 'visiting' soldiers to stay away from any conversational subjects that could be misinterpreted, leading to said soldier getting shot.

Makes perfect sense, I don't see a conspiracy here...

Not a conspiracy, I agree, but if we are to abandon our principles and our stance on human rights so as to not offend the population of radical Islamic groups, then the whole war, and all of the lives lost there were for what?

So that Afghanistan can return to the same, or worse state that it was in before the war?

The Taliban returns to power eventually, the brutal oppression of women and children returns with a vengeance and eventually they celebrate a great victory.

Well done!

They've been doing it for centuries. Nothing will change them except a computer and internet in every home. lol.

Exactly, so let them return to their wicked ways, and get out. There is/was no point in the war.

Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance, we made them evil and violent, right?

Anyway, it is hard to maintain our position in the region when we are officially backing radical Islamic groups in the region as "opposition forces to oppressive regimes". We wasted hundreds of billions and countless lives in Afghanistan, the sooner we get out the better.

The USA will leave, no matter what the exit strategy, in defeat. But it isn't going to end there, in fact it is now just the beginning.

Bump! This most bizarro PC agenda example deserved way more attention!

The document in question was titled: "Insider Threats – Afghanistan: Observations, Insights, and Lessons". There doesn't seem to be a full version of it for download.

Some good coverage of it here:
