Canadian Public Sector Employees Earning Average of:

$114,000/Year

A major report by Canada’s budget watchdog reveals that government spending on public sector personnel exceeded $43 billion in 2011-2012, accounting for almost half of all direct program spending.
The latest report from Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page released Tuesday shows that Canadians paid an average of $114,100 in compensation for each of the country’s 375,000 full-time federal employees.
“Certainly over the last 10 years it has grown much faster than the business sector and much faster than the provincial sector,” Page told CTV’s Power Play on Tuesday.

Canada only has a population of approx. 35,000,000.

375,000 full-time federal employees only accounts for about 1% of the population. The average Canadian wage is $35,000*. So just by those numbers we see Fed employees are earning 3x the average worker.

There are only 17 million people working in Canada.* That means that, the average worker spends about $2500 each to pay for public salaries, which is on average, 7% of their wage. So why is it, that 1% of the population, gets 7% of everyone else's wages?

Seems a little disproportionate doesn't it? How about 1% gets 1% of the wages.

The news clip talks about 18 days a year sick time on average for Fed employees. I knew someone at the tax office that used to brag about their sick days, lieu days, and other days they managed to avoid work and get paid for. When I talked to them about the injustices of certain taxes, and how it's unfair how certain people manipulate, they replied by telling me it's people shouldn't complain because they are 'ignorant' to tax law. And anyone who doesn't pay their taxes, in her opinion, should go to jail.

Well I guess so, since your salary and all your sick days are covered by people's taxes...

seems about right since the only organization paying good wages happens to be we the people of various country's. in a time when corporations are downsizing manpower and saddling the extra work load on their "you should be damn glad to have a job" employees. meanwhile the government tit jobs are increasing in numbers and paying exuberant wages. yes all the world is Mad.

You'll find that in pretty much every country now. The best bit is when they try and justify it by saying they pay tax, er no you dont you recycle the tax money i've already paid, its amazing how many people cant see it.

It used to be in the UK, that public sector workers had a lower pay scale than those in the private sector, offset by having better pensions, sick days etc. Now in the UK, a lot (not all) have salaries excedding that of those in the private sector and still whinge that they haven't had a pay rise recently. Welcome to my world 3 years and no pay rise and effectively earning so much more less now then previously due to inflation, so technically a pay cut.

Here I was thinking that big government IS big business! I don't see much that differentiates the two.

I wonder what big government is going to do when nobody has any money to pay them (via taxes) anymore? Who do they think is going to bail THEM out? Hmmmmm.......we may all have to start learning to speak Chinese soon.

This is one of the reasons everything is so broken right now. Just let them keep it up, eventually all this nonsense will catch up and the whole shebang will come crashing down. Unfortunately that means we all will suffer, but at this point it is more damaging to be relying on such a broken system instead of taking the huge hit and trying to recreate it without all the cancer. Sometimes you have to just cut your losses.
