Just wanted to say hello to all on ATS. I have been on here for sometime and never officially posted a hello message. So here it is.

I would like to know if anyone can explain how the Bible was written. From what I understand most of it was stories past down from one person to another before being written down. If that is the case how do we know it is all true. I have heard stories past from one person to another and when I checked the facts of the original story the story was different from what I was told. Why can't the stories in the Bible be changed to make some people look great in everyone's eyes. I personally have a hard time believing something that can't be proven scientifically. How do you feel about this?

Welcome d51...

I would like to know if anyone can explain how the Bible was written.

If you're ignorant, thru inspiration...

If you're level headed, thru malevolent inspiration...

Good luck and welcome.

God has used many people throughout history to perform His work. He used Noah to build the Ark and replenish the planet; He used Moses to lead the Israelites to the Promised Land (thought only 2 out of the original group actually made it); among the many other examples in the Bible, He still uses people today to do perform whatever works He sees it fit for them to perform.

The same goes for the combining of all the different scrolls, tablets, etc., to create what we know as the Bible. If He can influence people to do certain tasks in many other aspects of life, then He certainly can influence the people who put together the Authorized King James Bible to use the books He deemed fit to spread His message of Truth to the world.

And actually, this event was prophesied in the Book of Revelation. The Two Witnesses of Revelation are actually the Old and New Testaments. The Old Testament prophesied of the coming Messiah, and the New Testament declared His arrival.

John 5:39 (KJV)
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Although there are other books which never made it into the Bible such as the Book of Jasher, which is actually mentioned in the Bible, God still only used the ones He deemed most useful for the Two Witnesses. Think of it kind of like this: If someone is going to write an autobiography, they would not put every single little thing which has ever happened throughout their entire life into the book. Yes, it would be ideal, but there is a certain point where excess does no good; and I would assume God knows exactly what should be put into His Word.

If you would like to do some research and learn a ton of historical facts which prove without a shadow of a doubt that the Authorized King James Bible is the true inspired Word of God, and that they really are the Two Witnesses of Revelation, then please click the following link: www.remnantofgod.org...

Also, if you would like to watch a very in depth video which talks about how the Authorized King James Bible was copied from the very original scrolls, tablets, etc., then please send me a message and I will be glad to send you a link. I would post it right here, but I need to look for it, and as it's past dinner time for me right now, I will look for it if someone wants me to.

Basically over a hundred after Jesus supposedly existed, scribes, which were psychic special sandpeople and could speak with the God,one creator of everything, were guided bye God to write stories about Jesus. The stories are word for word what Jesus had said to his disciples over a hundred years earlier. These stories were written in symbols which were later interpreted into whatever they thought made sense at the time. The stories were translated through many languages until it reached the english language. At some point some men took some of these stories and put them together and made the book called the bible. Some stories such as the book of Enoch, which is bye far the most interesting, was left out. These left out stories are called the apocraphyl texts. The holy bible is the best selling book in the fiction category.

There are 2 simple ways to explain:
1. god inspired the authors, end of story.
2. authors compiled/mixed lots of elements from legends/myths in vogue that time and create an history that feat their needs/intentions.

Which one is more plausible... its up to you decide

Okay I'll take a stab at it. Basically the Bible is a remix of popular "Holy Stories" of the time. I like comparing religion to popular music because it only makes sense. So basically you had the Sumerians who had a bunch of myths, then they moved all around the world (really interesting group of people), then you have the Egyptians who mixed a lot of the Sumerian's myths and remixed it, then the Torah, the Bible, then Koran. The stories are so similar its almost funny. Its like every religion has a savor who had an virgin birth, who died, then came back (resurrection story) But the Bible itself was put together by a nice fellow named King James. He wanted a good book and had it edited. (Just to get out all the weird stories about magic and Solomon) And BOOM. The modern Bible. It still has some weird stuff in it but hey its what makes people happy. My religious view I'm either a Polytheistic or Agnostic depending on the day...

The Bible as we know it, is a collection of 66 shorter books, written over several centuries, and by several authors. This Book is proven to be inspired, every word, every letter, by:

Fulfilled prophecy, contained in its own pages, which has come true in every detail.

(to a lesser degree) Archaeology, which correlates with the Bible in a general way, and sometimes in a very specific way - for that see the books of David Rohl.

The mathematical substructure of the entire text, in both Hebrew and Greek - see the work of Ivan Panin and the Meru Project. Both alphabets show every sign of having been created by non-obvious means (call it supernatural if you wish), each letter has a phonetic, a numerical, and a pictographic value. When the numerical value is substituted for the phonetic value, coherent patterns of numbers emerge on multiple levels, which vex any human mind trying to comprehend it. It is beyond all human intelligence, and no, I am not talking about ELS "codes."

The elevated moral tone of this Book is quite beyond the bounds of the ordinary human heart. So, we see in this Book, not only a higher Intelligence, but a higher moral sense as well.

BTW, the name you will find for God in most Bibles, "Lord," really stands for YHWH (Yahweh), which means, when we plug in the very ancient pictographic meanings of the letters, "Behold the Hand, Behold the Nail," that is to say, Jesus. That's just another detail in that self-validating Book.

WOW..Lazuras..you are really eaten up with it aren't you. You have spent many hours on this.

Could you PLEASE tell me how you would answer these questions.

You quote the bible and I can't get an answer from anyone to these questions. Somehow I feel like you might
know.

You quoted numerous bible verses and I would just like to ask you to go back through those and explain to me....Verse by verse and chapter by chapter would be pretty enlightening.

1. WHO was there?
2. Who saw it?
3. Who wrote it down?

It would really clear things up for me and millions of others...

Thanks.

Oxi, you really need to do your homework, and for that matter, I don't think you quite comprehended what I said. Let me elaborate a bit - Ivan Panin was a Russian literary critic who decided to disprove the Bible. He became intrigued by some of the wording which seemed peculiar to him. In time, he found that by inserting the numerical values of the Hebrew letters for the phonetic values, you could create a mathematical Bible containing patters within patterns within patters of numbers. In one chapter alone, he found IIRC 37 different codings, all present in the text. This runs without interruption from one end of the Book to the other. If you have ever tried composing poetry (I'm a published poet, I know) working on this many levels:

grammar
meter
rhyme

then you know how difficult it must be to make it work on over three dozen levels, in just a short section. It all points to the Bible having been written, not by Moses to Saint John, but by a vastly higher Intelligence. I'm talking about mathematical structures which span books written in different centuries, in different countries, and by different people with different languages. Panin's work has not been disproved, although some think it has. Once this is comprehended, questions such as who was there, who saw it, and who wrote it down, are simply irrelevant. Would you like to delve deeper into this subject?

Hi. Welcome to the club. I would suggest letting the Bible answer that question. It does.

Yours is a quest that almost every Christian and Jew would ask at one time in their lives. There is no answer to satisfy your desire to know the truth. That is why a Christian as well as most other religionists must lean on faith.

All stories are at one time tradition. Actually all happenings are tradition till they are recorded and many of them are embellished before being recorded. A man or woman may have an experience and relate that experience many times and over many years before it is finally written down. Some stories are embellished by intent and some by distortion of memory. I have been guilty of this very same thing in my life. I so loved my father that I even made up heroic stories about him as a child. Even to this very day I so loved my pop that I refuse to not believe that he was the greatest man who ever lived. Course I know better but do the ones who I told the lies to know that they are lies?

You are right when you say stories are hard to believe without some proof. But lets take Modern day science for an example. Our scientists tell us that the universe is expanding at a rapid rate today. Of course they do not know the the space that it is expanding into and may never know. Now does that mean that the universe is still being created? If the universe is still being formed (expanding) and new matter being created, then it is still being created isn't it? But then most Christians understand that it has been all created some thousands of years ago. Actually Moses did not say that God is still not creating today. We automatically assume that everything we see today was created in the six days account that Moses wrote in the book of Genesis God rested on the seventh day from all that He created up to that seventh day but that seventh day has long expired hasn't it? Or has it?

If the universe is still expanding then why couldn't this apply to our earth and its inhabitants? In other words instead of evolution why not continuous creation? You see, we simply assume many things and without proof. My belief is that evolution is a myth or assumption. Yes there is proof of a gene split in a lower primate but there it must stop because all the rest is assumption. What if I would believe that the Creator simply created that lower primate in that manner and created Adam in his manner? Isn't my assumption as valid as that of a laboratory technician? At least up to this time?

What if Noah had only a handful of birds and animals up to his time of the flood? What if God started to create once again after the flood and produced millions more creatures since that seventh day of rest? Is there anything in the bible to say otherwise? If we assume that God created all terrestrial matter and the universe and then it was all complete, then how do we explain the expanding universe? The universe is not complete if it is still expanding.

So as you can understand what we assume in life is nothing more or less than faith. I assume that our scientists are correct in their discovery that our universe is still expanding. This is faith on my part just as I wish to believe that the Genesis account is factual. Moses does not contradict our science. It is our assumptions that we assume which is faulted. Now that along with embellishment can be misleading.
