Catfish documented catching and eating pigeons on land.

This is by far the most interesting nature story I've read in a while.

Catfish in southwestern France have been filmed throwing themselves out of the water to catch pigeons on the shoreline.

If this isn't a strong arguement for adaptive behavior I don't know what is.


This behavior has been seen before in saltwater mammals like dolphins and whales, which area able to live out of water for short periods but never freshwater fish.

Have you seen those videos of the jumping carp on the Mississipi?

Our local news went out to film it and one broke the camera guys nose.

ya, saw that a month or so ago on nightly news,
for some reason it was on (normally dont watch it)
and it happened to be the night they were showing
that.
I'd be worried about getting knocked out of the
boat in that river. They were coming from
every direction.

Having fished on rivers I know they can already stay alive longer than most gamefish.

It's damn near impossible to keep a walleye or a crappie alive on a stringer, but those catfish don't seem to care.


How long before the pigeons adapt and realize they are vulnerable to this?

The reason deer hunters go up into trees is because deer don't have natural predators in trees, but sooner or later you'd think they'd adapt.

Are they run away GMO catfish I mean I wouldn't be surpised if Monsanto tampered with their evolution
