The soy she was testing was Monsanto's Roundup Ready variety. Its DNA has bacterial genes added that allow the soy plant to survive applications of Monsanto's "Roundup" brand herbicide. About 85% of the soy gown in the US is Roundup Ready. Since soy derivatives, including oil, flour and lecithin, are found in the majority of processed foods sold in the US, many Americans eat ingredients derived from Roundup Ready soy everyday.

The FDA does not require any safety tests on genetically modified foods. If Monsanto or other biotech companies declare their foods safe, the agency has no further questions. The rationale for this hands-off position is a sentence in the FDA's 1992 policy that states, "The agency is not aware of any information showing that foods derived by these new methods differ from other foods in any meaningful or uniform way."[1] The statement, it turns out, was deceptive. Documents made public from a lawsuit years later revealed that the FDA's own experts agreed that GM foods are different and might lead to hard-to-detect allergens, toxins, new diseases or nutritional problems. They had urged their superiors to require long-term safety studies, but were ignored. The person in charge of FDA policy was, conveniently, Monsanto's former attorney (and later their vice president).

Although from experiments done in 2005.It is still very relevant today. The apple is rotten to the core.What is Monsantos former attorney doing in charge of FDA policy on this subject. It should be in the hands of scientists without political motivation.

The stakes here are high. People are eating this stuff everyday and it looks like our governments are not doing much to protect us from this stuff. We should at the very least have the choice to eat it or not. To have it clearly labelled and not have the health risks suppressed. Monsanto do not sell this rubbish in there own cafeterias but they expect us to eat it.

I think a lot more research should be done before this stuff is deemed fit for human consumption,.

When are people going to start waking up and demanding that Monsanto be shut down? This should prove to everyone that our government have no concern for people but only for money.

I also made a petition against Monsanto on www.change.org. still hasn't gone through. if it doesn't then something is definitely up with governments keeping this hush so the mass public doesn't realize it.

I hardly think that our illustrious leaders will take notice of our protests. Have you seen any change for the better because the masses were demanding it.....in the last 20 years? Could it be a form of depopulation, as the mega wealthy pick our pockets during our demise? We pay for our own slavery....why not this?

Seriously though, Corn, Soy & Canola are the ULTIMATE WORST foods to consume unless you buy organic.

This does not come as a surprise to me, nor should it to anyone else..

The fact that the poor animals that are being tested on are dying should make it pretty clear to Monsanto that they cannot possibly let people eat their food/stuffs...

There is even a noticeable physical difference between Monsanto grown and au naturale foods...

Depopulation and population control is, I think, the name of the game here. Why, when so many scientists have pointed out the adverse effects of GM foods in sterilizing lab animals, has this line of research not been banned?

Western governments all have their reports on population growth and sustainability and it's effects on food supply etc, so why not devise a way of removing the reproductive capacity of certain people to give a bigger share of the resources to those at the top? Of course, those that espouse such ideas are above it themselves as we are there to serve them.
Go ahead Mr. & Mrs. Gates and feed the starving of Africa with GM crops, how very benevolent and charitable.... at face value. But, how can this be controlled? What if the genie is already out of the bottle and they can't get it back in again as those GM crops taint other organic crops and the animals that feed upon them?

Also, whatever happened to choice? Shouldn't it be down to the people to decide whether they want this stuff or not, and not down to bought off politicians, lawyers and judges, who don't give a damn as long as they line their own pockets and think they are somehow immune?

It's a scary thought, but what if this really is a determined effort to thin down the population? Is it right that the privileged get to decide the fate of the rest of the planet simply because they are rich. Unfortunately, I think we already know the answer to that question... in the eyes of those making the money and decisions of course!

I think a lot of people are waking up to Monsanto. It is the most hated company in the world. Sadly it is also well protected by the US government..

Try reading the book "Seeds of Deception". Perhaps that one study was done poorly, but for those of us who have been following the scientific data closely, it was just one among dozens of pieces of information which show the dangers in GMOs.

Feeding trials are not necessary - the underlying biochemical methodology is criminally bogus. That book is over 10 years old and still remains one of the most scholarly works on the subject.

You say you've kept up with the science, but as far as I know this is a claim from the book you quoted.

Could you refer me to some papers that say the underlying methodology is unacceptable?

Sugar beets and all squashes are also genetically modified. Yams and sweet potatoes cannot be genetically
modified. They tried. Something to do with th e fact that these veges would not accept the virus.
Google genetically modified products and you will find a list of processed foods that contain GM ingredients.

Common sense says that eating vegetation that produces its own pesticides would be an unhealthy thing to do. I don't think we need to continue spending money and countless numbers of little lives on what anyone with half a working brain could figure out on their own.

The thinking and reasoning abilities of the human race are at an all time low.

Those pictures. Print them. Then tape them up at the grocery store.

Then watch people say "well, maybe GM foods will help me lose weight"...

There was a story a few months ago where Russia put a live webcam on Rats they were going to feed America's GMO food.

It doesn't matter if Genetically modified crops kill Americans off. There will always be millions of people willing to come to America....Obama's been giving millions of foreigners US citizenship.....replacing those they've killed off so far to make money.
