Yes, but this was a vote by the people. And it's my understanding that it was overwhelmingly defeated. I can't figure out how or why! Any insight?

Well so far people are not getting sick from food or are not aware of the impact. How long have GMO products been around? Is it not the case that the unhealthy lifestyle and sheer ammount of food consumed by many Americans do more damage so far?
