CBS Chicago

An Illinois state senator running to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. in Congress was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly tried to bring a gun onto a plane at O’Hare International Airport. Sen. Donne Trotter (D-Chicago) was charged with a felony count of attempting to board an aircraft with a weapon, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. The charge carries a penalty of 1 to 3 years in jail.
You got to love this. This guy has a CCW and works security. He said he forgot it was packed in his garment bag. I call BS! You have to feel that weight in a garment bag. I mean come on. Also, he says he carrys it as part of his security gig. If you are working security, you are carrying it. How does that account for it getting in the bag?

Here is the worst part.

Trotter, 62, has been a state senator since 1993. Before that, he was a state representative from 1988 to 1993. During his time in the legislature, he has regularly been an anti-gun vote, and has opposed legislation that would allow for concealed carry in Illinois.

This guy is a major hypocrite! Citizens should not own or carry guns in his opinion, but he not only owns one he tried to carry it on a plane. Where does Chicago get these idiots?

He's not the only one.

The upper tier of the anti-gun crowd is jam packed with rich people who have permits in places where you or I could never get one. They are surrounded by contracted bodyguards with weapons we could never get legally.

The King hates armed subjects. All of these politicians, celebrities and billionaires are Kings and we're the subjects.

There's nothing altruistic or grand about the push to regulate or ban guns. It's only hatred of us subjects that motivates them.

I smells me a rat ... anyone know of any other State Senator who moonlights as a security guard? Anyone know any security guards who carry a .25? Something is rotten in Denmark.

Not a chance. I am surprised it was reported at all to be honest.

That smell is called "liberalism".
I seriously doubt he actually "guards" anything. It is likely just a sham so that he can carry a weapon in Chicago were the plebes cannot.

Having previously lived in an anti-gun state one of the few ways you could lawfully carry a gun there was if you were a licensed "security guard".

Wouldnt surprise me if that was a loophole in Chi-town too.

There is no way any respectable security firm would be assigning mouse guns to their guards.

Yeah, here in Florida you have to use either a .380, 9mm, .38, or a .357 loaded with .38. So I can't imagine anyone using a .25.

State Senator? Yes.... I wouldn't say that would surprise me much, actually. State legislators don't sit around making up new laws almost year around just to kill time in most states...unlike federal Congress. One of the shooting courses I took locally here, I took with a guy who'd done a term in our State senate and he described it as an interesting part time job while it lasted but money wasn't anything to crow about and it wasn't full time. Texas only meets theirs once every two years. So who knows on that part?

However, this fool is a Rep in one of the most extreme, anti-gun states in the nation. It's so absurdly bad that when my late father ruined an M-14 with a shooting accident, he couldn't even drive it out or pick it up from the manufacturer....in Illinois. It isn't legal, they said, to transport it in Illinois either to or from.

How that for making sense in the extreme of that side of things? I hope he does the max....and then some for bad behavior along the way. Hmmm.... I hear there is a comfy place at Joliet. I'll bet he's even had a hand in the funding of the spot.
Poetic justice does happen occasionally.

What? A legislator taking advantage of a sketchy loophole to get what he wants at the expense of the citizens??

Say it ain't so!

There is a curse on anyone who runs for that congressional seat.

Start with the missteps and corruption of Jesse Jackson Jr then look to his predecessor

Mel Reynolds.

In August 1994, Reynolds was indicted for sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer that began during the 1992 campaign.[1] Despite the charges, he continued his campaign and was re-elected that November; he had no opposition.[1] Reynolds initially denied the charges, which he claimed were racially motivated. On August 22, 1995, he was convicted on 12 counts of sexual assault, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography. He resigned his seat on October 1 of that year.[2]

Reynolds was sentenced to five years in prison, thus he expected to be released in 1998. However, in April 1997 he was convicted on 15 unrelated counts of bank fraud and lying to SEC investigators. These charges resulted in an additional sentence of 78 months in federal prison. Reynolds served all of his first sentence, and served 42 months in prison for the later charges. At that point, President Bill Clinton commuted the sentence for bank fraud. As a result, Reynolds was released from prison and served the remaining time in a halfway house.[3][4]

This clown is going to run again for the same seat....

Before Him Gus Savage

n 1989, Savage was accused of trying to force himself on a female Peace Corps worker in Zaire. He denied the allegations and blamed them on the "racist press." The House Ethics Committee decided that the events did indeed occur, but it did not take disciplinary action only because Savage wrote a letter of apology.

Savage had long been controversial even in his own district, never winning a primary election with more than 52% of the vote, and usually facing multiple challengers. For the 1992 election, his district had been extended further into Chicago's south suburbs by redistricting, and Savage faced Mel Reynolds, who had challenged him in the 1988 and 1990 primaries. Savage claimed that "racist Jews" were donating to Reynolds, while Reynolds claimed that Savage was involved in a drive-by shooting that injured him. Although Savage accused Reynolds of staging the shooting, he lost the 1992 election to Reynolds by a margin of 63%-37%.

Gotta love the crazy politics of Chicagoland...

As for Trotter.. He's just an idiot trying to back his way out of a mess. Don't know how that gun got into my bag Mr. Officer.... Honest... It's usually on my hip...

I think it is not so much a curse, unless it is the curse of the endemic corruption leavened throughout the Chicago political apparatus.

But the voters love it, thats whats so infuriating .... I used to reside in the IL 2nd CD and as long as you have a "D" at the end of your name, you were guaranteed election.

Have you ever watched "Boss" on Starz? Kelsey Grammer plays a bloated, corrupt and power hungry mayor of Chicago. If only a 1/4 of what is portrayed in that show is true you know Chicago is about as bad as it gets... Its almost comical... Glad I don't live there..

When I lived in Chi-town years ago, it was known that politicians from Alderman on up were allowed to carry concealed.

I suspect a State Senator would be allowed, if an Alderman was.

Under a state law dating back to 1872, mayors and aldermen are designated peace officers. And, conveniently, peace officers are permitted to not only own but carry handguns.
