In the "save as" dialogue, see if you can select .gif.

It won't do animations, though. That is a rendering deal, akin to making a movie.

You can save all the slides as .gif via the "save-as" function. But, that won't create an animated .gif (if that's what you're after.)

ETA: I use JASC animation shop for ani's. It's part of the PSP family of apps. It's old and I'm pretty sure it's a (legit) free download out there somewhere.

I can run it as a a slide show, and works quite well. But just can't get it play in any other format.

No big deal I'll play with it again when I get my computer back.

I've never tried animations before, I'm still learning Gimp, thanks for replying though

I must have missed it in my haste to post, but I'd love to post an animated avatar of my own making before too long.

Since you are dabbling a bit in GIMP, here is a good tutorial on animations that Druid put together a while back...

GIMP is not very intuitive, as I'm sure you've found. But once you get the hang of it..

ETA: OK since you're not wearing it, I'm going to try it on.

Are you talking about the "Layers" window?

You can toggle back and forth between layers and the other tools here...
