The David Attenborough Appreciation Thread

David Attenborough has been broadcast on the BBC for 60 years and counting now. Not only do I believe that he is the greatest of his genre but also the amount of good work he has done to catalogue natural history and to activley conserve nature by the best of his abilities.

I have nothing but admiration and respect for David Attenborough

in the words of the man himself....

I had a huge advantage when I started 50 years ago - my job was secure. I didn't have to promote myself. These days there's far more pressure to make a mark, so the temptation is to make adventure television or personality shows. I hope the more didactic approach won't be lost.

I love what he says there, he as far as TV personalities goes is one of the only people I whole heartedly admire.

Me too......People argue that if a loud energetic tv personality doing wild things to grab the audience's imagination gets people interested in science or nature etc then it can only be a good thing. But i always argue with that....I find it sad when people are only interested in learning in a way that "feeds" their need to be entertained....But we live in an entertainment culture I suppose....

I love David Attenborough. My mother used to tape his series onto VHS when we were kids and the tapes got watched over and over until they got too stretched (or jammed in the video machine). And then 2 years ago, my favourite online book shop started supplying his work on DVD. So I'm slowly adding them all to my collection.

he really is of the few people that us weird and diverse folk could agree deserves the tag of "greatest living englishman"

ETA: the look of mellow satisfaction on the sloths face as it squeezed out that turd will remain with me for a long time
