BP Banned From US Government Contracts

Looks like at least one government agency is finally growing a pair, for a little while at least

‘EPA is taking this action due to BP's lack of business integrity as demonstrated by the company's conduct with regard to the Deepwater Horizon blowout, explosion, oil spill, and response,’ the agency said.

Two weeks after agreeing to pay $4.5 billion to settle Justice Department charges in the case, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ordered BP temporarily blocked from contracts until it can prove it meets U.S. government business standards.

Government should ban itself as well. It did nothing to stop spraying of toxic chemicals. Barley helped with clean up. Even told some countries to go home after they offered help.

"Meets U.S. Government business standards" and what would that be? B.P. forking over all that money.

And when they go broke, they would probably ask uncle sam for a bailout.

Yeah, meeting U S government business standards is a bit of a hoot considering some of the happy horse doovers that come out of just about every area of our government.

I wonder if Transocean and others have also been barred, seeing it was them in actual control of the rig when it blew. Blaming a few execs, thousands of miles away, seems to be dodging the issue that it was a systemic failure by all parties, not just BP.

That said, this ban is only going to temporary and BP has won nearly 50 contracts since the disaster. Chances are that this will be lifted after the next round of concessions are sold off.

I very much doubt this will cause them to go broke. BP does a fair amount of business elsewhere and, as I said, they have won many new contracts since the disaster and all existing deals are still valid.
