The Battle for Cyberspace Heats Up - A Call To Arms From The Enemy

Preface

Hello again ATS! I've come bearing a bit more information about the increasingly obvious and disturbing battle for control of our beloved cyberspace!

A few hours ago I was randomly surfing my usual information haunts when I came across a pretty innocuous and untroubling document that I opened up, fully expecting it to be nothing more than a few minutes either spent learning a bit more trivial knowledge - or just a few minutes wasted. Either way, I was OK with it. This document, found, by me, through Cryptome, was of a communique from the National Science Foundation]National Science Foundation (NSF) - asking for input upon a previously released document. I'll get to that in a minute.

Just by way of information, a quick Wikipedia glance tells us the following about the NSF:

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a United States government agency that supports fundamental research and education in all the non-medical fields of science and engineering. Its medical counterpart is the National Institutes of Health. With an annual budget of about US$6.87 billion (fiscal year 2010), the NSF funds approximately 20% of all federally supported basic research conducted by the United States' colleges and universities. In some fields, such as mathematics, computer science, economics and the social sciences, the NSF is the major source of federal backing.

Basically speaking some very smart people usually engaging in some very positive stuff. The beginnings of this organization are a bit muddied by the fact that the Manhatten project seems to have played a major role in the decision to create such an agency. And they are a bit incestuous with DARPA. So, when I opened this newly released document, I honestly did not expect to find anything beyond a slightly interesting read. The document itself was, in fact, very pedestrian and boring - until I began to research the subject matter it discussed.

Hiding In Plain Sight

The header and opening of the Document read as follows:

The document, itself, is a rather boring request for Government agencies, academic institutions, and related businesses to provide input to an 11 month old Document, issued by the Executive Office of the President of the United States, on behalf of the National Science and Technology Council

Because I am curious by nature, I Googled the specific words "Federal Cybersecurity Research and Development Strategic Plan" and easily found the document housed at the [url=http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/microsites/ostp/fed_cybersecurity_rd_strategic_plan_2011.pdf[White House website[/url]. For the record, it is dated "December 6,2011". On the surface the document seems to be a geniunely good thing... A request for agencies and companies to come together to help keep American safe against those pesky hackers, international data spies, and hopeless souls who still won't utilize iTunes to download their own music! But some of the wording struck me as off putting - so I screen captured the parts I didn't see as fully kosher and will share them now: I will have to break these images up over two or three pages to ensure that I don't crash our beloved ATS with my "over the top" approach to being too lazy to transcribe large PDF files.

Once I began cross checking the first discovery I made was in reference to the mention of a "Special Cyber Operations Research and Engineering (SCORE)" group in these documents. This is the first time, in my personal experience that I have ever come across a Government agency that doesn't appear to have a public face! Even "Area 51", the CIA, the NSA, and DARPA have their own websites. Heck, even the OSD Human Behavior Modeling Program - that I recently discussed on ATS, has a public face. Yet this "Score"? The only information I could find about them was here - at the IT Law Wiki. Very, very interesting...

Taken entirely upon its own merits, the above does not seem terribly troubling. But when combined with the recent Secret Executive Order, Signed by President Obama in October and the Pending UN Resolution which mirrors the language of that secret EO a clear and dangerous pattern begins to become evident. These things tie together and, if it this knot of webs manages to be tightly tied, by those who wish it to be so, then the days of the Internet, as we know it, are over.

Closing Statements

In and of itself, the renewal for initiative upon a nearly year old request for input and cooperation seems mundane and innocent. But, when put into context, with consideration to several other factors currently in play - this renewed "reminder" for cooperation is very relevant and telling. The United States Government is actively seeking to "partner" with a very select group of telecom companies and with select global governing bodies to literally seize power over all known forms of communication. Is it not enough that they already are known to have the capacity to monitor 99.99% of global communications? the fact that they now seek total and absolute control is simply proof that power corrupts - and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

There is a famous saying about he who gives up liberty in the name of security loses both and deserves neither. Well, let me tell you ATS. Right now software pirates, Iranian, South Korean, and Chinese hackers seem a WHOLE lot less menacing to me than do our own self-appointed cyber guardians. These are encroachments upon a universal tool that are as heinous as any land grab or restriction of free speech that one can imagine. If the Internet were physical property? You can bet that Americans would have their guns loaded and would be daring those with agendas to cross their property lines. It is imparative to our future, and to the future of our children, and their children, that we learn to see this cyberlandscape for what it really is. THIS is the New World. This IS Cibola. This is the new real estate of the new Empire - and if we do not wake up to these facts? We wil find ourselves as lost and disenfranchised as every other culture that failed to see the approaching destruction and tyranny.

The pawns in this game are being laid out very carefully and many of them are in place currently my friends. Do not take comfort in knowing that things are basically still all OK - because we know, for certain, the current US military strategy... shock and awe. The changes will come swiftly and they will come soon. Every single one of us who can read this is a soldier in this battle. Will you stand or surrender? Do you care enough to fight? Do you see the evils preparing to be unleashed upon us all?

Well you can link the US to the UN on Cyberspace going all the way back to the monster they created together. DRM the birth of STUXnet Flame Gause Star DUQU and so on. They worked DRM into everything but the UN never knew it was allowing the US to create a true Cyber weapon against the world. It has already been implemented and it is to late to stop it. Now they have to pass laws and grab control before someone else uses it. Sony played games with trojans in music cds and created playstation that bypassed some of the power controlled by the US and UN. Look what that got them. Hacked by Anonymous a US hacking operation and a US General who was in charge of Cyber Command being put in charge.

I was hoping that Anonymous would get brought up! My lucky day that it's in the first reply.

Hypothetically speaking: If I were an actor - that is to say a state, nation, government, or governing body, botnet herders would be a commodity that I would want on my side. They are, for all intents and purposes, the Hessian's of the digital world. The mercenary elite with the tools and knowledge to accomplish a very specific type of warfare.

These men would have value. They might be thought of, in strategic terms, as commission officers.

But what of the rest? The "troops"? Well they have always been largely historically anonymous, irrelevant, and expendable. The fact of the matter is that the faceless masses are cannon fodder for the few who have money, a prominent name, or specific technical skills that merit their survival above the hoard.

The three subjects I've discussed lately ( the secret EO, the proposed UN Resolution, and this renewed message to academia and private industry ) all have wording about the Government partnering with private concerns.

My advice to all who read this.... ponder deeply the above implications because the ultimate deception would be to convince people that they are fighting FOR themselves - all while tricking them into fighting against their own best interests.

Sounds like something, oh I don't know, a Government might do.
