Heavy Metal as Therapy.

I get a kick out of the lead singers in some bands that sound like the cookie monster.

Well, the Cookie Monster still sometimes shows us how it's originally meant to be done.

Everything else is just a cheap derivative.

It is quite interesting that metal music has been seen as negative by so many religious, and other repressive forces.

Even where the style has been embraced by religious elements, it remains controversial.

Heavy Metal has been on the defensive for decades against critics and those spreading moral panics.

Yet, actual studies have always shown positive findings too:

However, rarely will people ever come out say how metal helped them.

Maybe the tide is beginning to turn, and it's time to celebrate metal, rather than just to defend or justify a style of music.

I lived with a dude that couldn't sleep unless he listened to old Metallica first. Different stroke for different folks. I'm an original metal head. Sabbath, et al. I actually find the music soothing. My own angst played before me. Ahhhhhh.....

Oh, BTW, good metal isn't dead. Slipknot is awesome. A few years back they invited a couple of members of Stone Sour to play. The result? 2 excellent bands. Jim and Corry play in both. The original:

Being a gamer and a metal-head, when I can combine these two things, I find it VERY therapeutic. As a result, I give you all this:

Rev Theory - Hell Yeah.

I've often wondered why certain music affects certain people positively and others negatively. It's vibrations, and our bodies are like 70-something percent water, and if you consider that our emotions are chemical reactions… it seems like music physically affects us.

So why does metal calm some people down while agitating others? I usually hear people talk about how metal has "gotten them through some hard times", meaning that they were already agitated. I'm wondering if the abrasive dissonance in the music actually mirrors the dissonance in the body, harmonizing with it. Like creating a minor chord. Then the harmony would bring peace.

Oooooh i like!

I mostly like the older metal. Obituary, older Metallica (first three albums), Megadeth etc. But I also like some of the newer metal. I'm so stoked for the new Devourment album in February
