Unfortunately, not all of the recently unemployed qualify for those benefits. With state government coffers running low, most businesses do not want to have to pay a separated employee anything towards unemployment. Many people I've met at the county career center have said their company confabulated reasons to dismiss them rather than lay them off and have to keep paying them. Corporate greed. Sad.
