How about the entire space or dive suit is made out of this stuff instead of just part of it?
NASA and the Soviets experimented with a type of second skin suit as an alternative to the bulky and heavy suits astronauts wear now.
It was basically a skin tight suit, that looked like a lycra body stocking, and as far as protection in a vacuum goes, it did the job, but wasn't too great with adverse temperatures if i remember correctly.
This new synthiskin, might be a better option...maybe those ET's reported to be wearing skin tight, one piece coveralls really do come from our future after all
