TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Around 40 members of a mysterious doomsday group are involved in a tense standoff with police in rural Japan, in a chilling reminder for many Japanese that such cults remain active eight years after a deadly gas attack.
The group, which calls itself "Pana Wave Laboratory" and believes the world will be devastated by natural disasters on May 15, set up camp on a mountain road in central Japan last week and is refusing to budge until Saturday.

The cult members, clad entirely in white in what they say is protection from electromagnetic waves that made their founder gravely ill, have blocked off the narrow road in Gifu prefecture, some 274 km (171 miles) west of Tokyo.

YAMATO, Japan May 3

The cult says it seeks refuge from deadly electromagnetic waves generated by power lines and controlled by "left-wing elements." It believes white fabric helps neutralize the waves.

"It's impossible to get away from the effects of these weapons completely," spokesman Mitsumoto Kikuchi told dozens of reporters who converged on the caravan this week. "What we're doing is looking for the safest possible environment, one far away from power lines."

Chino has prophesied that a 10th planet approaching Earth will bring massive earthquakes, giant tidal waves and other "cataclysmic" changes as early as this summer.

This just in:

TOKYO May 14
Police on Wednesday raided several facilities and searched two dozen vehicles owned by a cult whose members have riveted Japan as they travel across the country in an all-white caravan, warning the end of the world is near.

Dozens of investigators searched the Pana Wave Laboratory cult's main facility in Fukui, western Japan, and its dome-shaped shelters at a mountain village north of Tokyo on suspicion the group falsified vehicle registrations, police said.
The cult says it seeks refuge from deadly electromagnetic waves generated by power lines and controlled by "left-wing elements." Members believe white fabric helps neutralize the waves that are harming their leader's health.

They also say the approach of a 10th planet will cause a global calamity within the next week or so.

Chino recently released a statement urging people to protect Tama-chan, a bearded seal that has become a national mascot since appearing in rivers near Tokyo, far from its natural habitat in the icy Bering Sea. Domestic media reports have expressed concern that Pana Wave Laboratory was hoping to capture the animal.

No sh*t! Saw it last night and it's awesome - worth the wait.

There is a preview for The Matrix - Revolutions at the end of the credits, but the credits take forever. Must have been about 500 people working on that film.
