This is a paper swan that I just finished.

I didn't design it, I'm really not sure who did. I do know that the method is called Zhezhi (Chinese Paper Folding.)

The swan is made up of around 400 paper triangles that take forever to cut and fold. I should figure out how to make a manatee

Awesome! You have mastered patience and nimble fingers.

Did you follow a pattern?

NO WAY - my little sister is a bit a an Origami freak and she is going to LOVE this.

Zhezhi - now that deserves a Google.

Did you happen to get it on Vid? - if not, you could do one of those fast-motion thingies.

Thank-you - top stuff!

It took about 5 days with lots of breaks to cut the rectangles and fold the triangles and then not even 1 hour to build it

Thank you very much, Des. You are a very sweet person and I appreciate your reply very much!

Thank you very much!

I have this one memorized now because I've built this model before but I did start with a pattern many swans ago
I'm pretty sure that if you look on youtube there are tutorials. Some people call it 3d origami so you could try "3d origami swan."

Thanks again!

Thanks very much!

I didn't get it on video but I thought after the fact that I should have at least taken pictures of the steps.

I think that's cool that your sister loves origami! I started out paper folding as a kind of therapy and now I'm addicted to it....Not the worst addiction a person can have though, right!? lol.

If your sister wants to make one I think there are tutorials on youtube. I would try searching for "3d origami swan."

Every time I go over to her place she knocks one of these up in no time.

I'm always super impressed.

That's really cute! I can't tell from the picture if that's the "flying" crane one or a different bird. Do the ones she makes "fly" if you pull the tail?

I just made a little parrot type bird a few days ago. I should take a picture lol

When you move the tail the head goes up and down.

Its a real treat for the kids - they (and me) love it!

That looks painstakingly intricate, very nice.
Is it lots of little folded pieces locked together?

Thanks!

Yes, it's little folded triangles. The way they are folded you get almost like little pockets on the end of them so that you can stack them in different ways to produce different shapes/curves. It's not very hard to do, only very time consuming.

That is so beautiful! I wish I had the patience! Although I'm sure my two yr. old would kill it! lol
Really amazing though. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much!

I don't have kids but I do have a cat and it's pretty hard keeping him away from it so I can kind of understand lol.
