We shot down drones when I was in the military for target practice with RedEye missiles, and those drones were much smaller.

Shot across the bow intimidation or harassment I would guess, unless they need glasses.

What makes you so sure it wasn't a warning shot?
Maybe the locals are getting slightly put-off with american forces repeatedly "showing off their military might" in the region...

The US has no reason to be patrolling anything in this region. International airspace or not... Iran obviously sees this as a threat, as would anyone else.

Switch sides for one moment, imagine the hypocrisy if Iran were to be piloting "routine" patrols of drones or other aircraft 200 miles off the coast of the US? America would start a frikkin war over it.

Again, the 'elephant in the room' question here is:
This took place on November 1...so WHY did we just find out about this event (from CNN)..immediately AFTER the election?
Was CNN on the DOD protecting Obama's re-election efforts?

No they wouldn't. The Soviets flew patrols off the US the entire Cold War, and Russia has started flying them again. Russian subs have been seen off the coast of the US, in fact one supposedly just took port in Jacksonville to get away from Sandy. All they would do is intercept any aircraft, shadow it, and take steps if it acted aggressively.

They got shot AT not shot down. But the big thing is that A) we don't know that this actually happened at all, and B) we don't know yet where the Predator was at the time.

As for them knowing, they would only know if they flew past it, and got a good look at it. The Hellfires that it carries would be obvious, since they hang below the wings. If they just flew at it, and opened fire, then no, they wouldn't know until they passed it at least once, or closed in on it.

OK. I see. Do these things also have machine guns or something like an aden cannon or whatever that could perhaps be missed even at close quarters?

Just exploring the possibilities if the event did take place.

You don't think that they would let this news out before the election do you? They wanted everything to appear all rainbows and butterflies everywhere...because If people saw the chance of hostile actions, it would remove the focus from freebies to...who is going to deal with Iran best....

No, the Predator/Reaper only carries Hellfire missiles. Currently none of the UCAVs carry guns on them.

ODD, that Obama was immediately told and fully briefed about THIS incident,...and yet, he knew nothing about Benghazi right after it happened.

What gets me is the comment in the article "They missed.... but it doesn't matter, they still shot at us'.

Us? No, incorrect sir, they discharged firearms in the direction of your machine, you're only offended by that. They hit nothing, and No person/pilot was harmed.

Thats exactly it, they discharged fire arms into the vicinity of the craft. If it was a person shooting in front of your face you would be pretty pissed weather they hit you or not.

The facts are the facts we have and anything else at this point is speculation at best. so maybe we could keep on track with what info we do have at this moment.

It could be we were only given partial info..couple other ideas come to mind

1. It never happened...any time we are leading up to military action we need a bad guy, we have to make the enemy into the ENEMY...we have to build a case against them to gain public support as to what bad guys they really are........do you really think Iran couldn't shoot down the drone? Firing on it would be taken in the same light as shooting it down...a hostile action...so they might as well shoot it down....IT's all going to be taken as a threat....until I see footage I am not beliving this version..

2. They discovered the drone in Iranian airspace and chased it out....I really don't buy a unarmed drone just flying over international waters.....if so what a waste of resourcs... we have great satalite coverage of that area...why use a drone? Why unarmed? Everyone knows the tension in the area...wouldn't you want a strike ready asset overhead than a unarmed drone?

#2 Iranian plane shot a warning shot, and didn't take down the drone according

the Iranians to scramble a plane, while US moves the drone back into international
space.

If at this point you are not aware of dirty tricks employed by US on 24/7 basis

I don't think the Obama administration would have anything to gain by holding the information back. Btw Obama is pretty good at handling things like that, anyways to the general public has he took care of OBL(apparently).

The only reason behind this is because there was bigger news at the time, like the election you know, common sense.
