How can a trained military jet pilot 'miss' a prop driven unarmed drone?
We shot down drones when I was in the military for target practice with RedEye missiles, and those drones were much smaller.

Shot across the bow intimidation or harassment I would guess, unless they need glasses.

Having witnessed drones while in the air force, I concur with this assumption. There is no way this Iranian pilot would miss this drone had he wanted to shoot it down. It is that simple. Why are people acting like Iran is endangering American lives? Don't you think the pilot could differentiate between a drone an a transport or other type of plane? Definitely. What Americans should be outraged over is the hypocrisy of their own government, as well as that of Israel.

I personally am not even sure if I believe this story, because as I said, having knowledge of jets and missiles, I do not think the pilot would have missed. Not in the plane he was flying, which is more than capable of bringing down an unmanned drone. But I do not think it was right for them to fire on it either.

Because it wasn't...

You seem pretty convinced, so convinced that you presented it as fact.

Again, the 'elephant in the room' question here is:
This took place on November 1...so WHY did we just find out about this event (from CNN)..immediately AFTER the election?
Was CNN on the DOD protecting Obama's re-election efforts?
edit on 8-11-2012 by IAMTAT because: (no reason given)

what does this have to do with the election? Obama couldnt use his personal jedi mind power to stop the missle from hitting a drone?

As I and others have said repeatedly, the SU-25 is the WORST platform for bringing down a UAV. It's the equivalent of an A-10. While the A-10 carries air to air missiles, if they were to shoot one at something, they'd only end up pissing it off. The A-10 has a better chance of scaring the other pilot into flying into the ground than it does of actually shooting something down. The SU-25 is the same way. An aircraft that was designed specifically to shoot things on the ground is going to have an extremely difficult time shooting down an air to air target, no matter how slow it's going, or how easy a target it is.

You can't be that stupid?

Now for the last time and I'll type this out real slow for you. You stated that I Claimed it was fact.

Prove it...

Now.
What does any of this have to do with Iran firing on a drone in international space?

Nothing.

Knowledge of it was withheld from the American public. Its release may have affected the outcome of the election.

That's dirty politics.

Ol' Beaver said it all in the very first post after the OP.

how could it affect the outcome is what im wondering. What does obama have to do with a military excercise commonly run in international waters? They probally dont call and bother him every time they run an military excercise, so how is he personally responsible?

The fact that it was fired upon is significant, don't you THINK?

I think the thought process is something along the lines of "They shot at our drone, what are you going to do about it?" "Nothing, because they didn't shoot our drone down." "Look what a weak president he is! He's letting Iran do what they want!" and the undecideds vote for Romney.

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Iranian attack aircraft fired at least twice at an unarmed U.S. drone conducting routine surveillance in international airspace over the Persian Gulf, the Pentagon said Thursday. The aircraft missed and the drone returned to base unharmed.

The released accounts make the claim. This occurred on Nov 1, 2012
Iran didn't say squat. Now, you and I both know damn well if it was in their territory they would have come right out and said so right after the incident.

I missed the memo that confirms this rumor, please forward it to me kind sir

You know sometimes I can't take you seriously.
First you come into the thread all hot and rearing to go in complete denial over this whole thing then when it pans out you double back and recount.

Were you wrong then?

Are you wrong now?

Were you ever right?

We have the power to destroy nations. Him being indifferent about it is a reaction actually. I would think it would be the wisest and more insulting to them actually. But I dont think most people would see it that way.

The Iranians are saying it was in Iranian airspace and I get the impression the intent was simply to drive it out without necessarily downing it

Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said on Friday that an unidentified aircraft entered the airspace over Iranian territorial waters in the Persian Gulf region and was forced to escape after Iranian armed forces took “smart and firm” action.

www.tehrantimes.com...

Yes- a matter of "who you going to believe?" In this case, I'm inclined to give the Iranians the benefit of the doubt. American drones routinely violate sovereign airspace of other countries, including Iran, so the idea of a US drone entering Iranian territory is pretty plausible, and Iran has been extremely cautious to not behave aggressively in unprovoked action. Somehow I doubt they'd be willing or so careless to do so now. They've just filed a formal complaint to the UN over Israel's constant belligerent threats ( I was reading about this just today)- I don't think they'd undermine their position by making unjustified assaults in international territory.

Going to bow out of the discussion now....

Regardless on where the drone was at.

Iran FIRED on a US Drone.

I don't understand why anyone is apologizing for Iran, or making excuses.

If it was America attacking an Iranian drone, those same apologists, would be using the cliched "warmonger" stance, as quick as you could say ATS.

I don't see you apologizing for US drones firing on civilian populations of various countries. You are truly confused when it comes to equal humanity.

Give it up, that drone had no business being anywhere near there dude.

LOL how dare Iran protect it's regional interests

I guess if they catch drones floating around they are just supposed to let it be and not worry about it.
