Has anyone noticed the religious symbolism in Transformers? Good vs. Evil, a creator of a race, a physical receptacle for a piece of the divine, etc.

On a more serious note, I vote for making symbology a 'real' word. Who is with me on that?

Okay. I called Merriam (she was very open to the idea) and took care of it:

Definition of SYMBOLOGY
1
: the art of expression by symbols
2
: the study or interpretation of symbols
3
: a system of symbols

Not really.

I saw a lot of cool explosions, hot chicks, gun fire and copious amounts of CGI.

Not sure if there was a plot though...

I missed the symbolism - would you care to elaborate? Some pictures might aid your cause.

in japan in the 80's transforners were called Super God Masterforce. says so right on the wikipage here
so im sure there is at least a little religious over tones

The other Powermaster toys (known in Japan as Godmasters) and the Headmaster figures released during that year were the same: human beings who become robots.

Conflicts between good and evil. A supreme leader on both sides. And a race of people in danger from the evil, protected by the good.

I'm sure that story goes a long way into history, well before anyone sat down and said "Now how can I control all these tribes.. I know, I'll make up a god!" before writing a bible.

I think it's as historical a story as you can get besides *Wanna go rumpy pumpy* before clubbing the ladies on the head and dragging them back to the love cave..

I think this Transformers strory line should become its own movie franchise...at least it is a little different than all the rehashed batmans supermans ect...I am not asking hollywood to be original, but try maybe something different once in a while

: "Powermaster Optimus Prime is known as Ginrai in Masterforce, a human trucker who combines with a Transtector (a non-sentient Transformer body, a concept lifted from Headmasters) to become a Transformer himself. The other Powermaster toys (known in Japan as Godmasters) and the Headmaster figures released during that year were the same: human beings who become robots."

Looking at one example, Optimus Prime's 'Matrix of Leadership' that he has which serves as a template for life forms... among other things...

This Matrix of Leadership has quite a bit in common with Metatron's Cube, does it not? That's just the most obvious example.

Movies are completely symbolic, the more advanced you are in the interpretation of metaphor, and the higher level of education that you have, you will see the "messages" that the authors are trying to express in their work. To a point, it can be a form of "brainwashing" as the uneducated masses will start to believe in what is conveyed without having sufficient reference to be able to construct an arguement that can nullify the symbolism and energy conveyed in works of popular culture.
