One of the founding principles of America is the freedom of speech and freedom of the press. In fact, the very First Amendment of the Constitution guarantees our rights concerning this issue. A free press or “Fourth Estate” has long been a source of pride for the citizens of the US and a model held up for other countries to attain. Our “Founding Fathers” anticipated the press’ ability to keep political leaders honest but likely did not anticipate the power institutions of the media could wield by either their actions in reporting a story – or by their inaction in not reporting a story. Despite the most egregious and obvious displays of incompetence, dishonesty and corruption since the “Bay of Pigs”, the “Fourth Estate” inexplicably lies at the feet of 44th President and his Administration, like a deaf and mute lapdog begging for his masters praise. The print and television media have shamelessly “shielded by omission” the Obama Administration form “Fast & Furious”, Solyndra and countless other acts of corruption or incompetence. And now Benghazi, which will go down in history as either the second or third worst political scandal in modern history with the likes of “Watergate”, “Teapot Dome”, “Iran Contra” and “The Bay of Pigs”. Long live the internet, the “Fifth Estate”, where accurate, truthful, free information circulates in abundance and people can truly enjoy uncensored, unbiased and unfiltered “Freedom of Speech” and “Freedom of the Press”.
