The Anxiety within the mind

Theres no doubt about it many people suffer a level of anxiety in these times we live in. I dont think i have read yet a philosophical metaphysical discussion on this, although it definitely i consider it is a real manifestation of the psyche mind.

Now and then we come across people who are silently pensive or not so silently agitated. These phenomenon are indicators of the anxiety in the mind. The anxiety whch makes the mind continuosly restless.

The causes of this in philosophical and metaphysical description is due to the separation of the true self to create a artificial persona, which has the function role of being the front spokesperson to the everyday encounters we experience in life.

Actually i have dont an issue with the description, and in fact i consider its a necessary feature of our existance in life to develop an individual persona. The draw back appears however to be that in its creation there has been also the creation of the mood of anxiety.

Therefore accepting it is an unavoidable characteristic we must live with in presenting ourselves as indivdiuals then what can be done to reduce the anxiety feelings?

From a philosophical and metaphysical perspective i would be suggesting to development an awareness of the true source which lies behind the conceputal sounds of the thinking noises in our head. The internal dialogue a perpetually every moment of the waking day of chattering to ourselves internally.

To reach the true source may need the use of a technique like meditation to empty the head of excessve pressure of thoughts. This doesnt necessarily need to be a transcendental event as it may simply be accomplished by going to quiet place each day for an hour or two and releasing all thoughts.

Another protecting laying is avoiding situations which will produce unnecesssary negative feelings within you. These negative thoughts may be initated by places or seeing or being exposed directly or indirectly to certain people. Sometimes this cant be avoided, but for when it can dont go sticking your neck out unnecessarily as some people deliberately will derive pleasure in chopping it off for their own amusement.

We think alike, it seems. I've been aware of that "true self" behind the layer of my mind for many months, and even succeeded in being it for a minute or two. I realized earlier today that my anxiety is in part due to being detached from my constructed identity. Reminding myself that it is false in the end and that thing would be so much simpler if I could just let it go helps for a little while... but I'd just miss "myself" so much, you know?

As for having so many thoughts being a cause of anxiety, I completely agree. I call it mind clutter. I notice that when I'm away from the internet for a few days, my mind feels like it has a load lifted from it. The internet is full of bits of negativity, and it all adds up. Death by a thousand cuts.

I dont miss it. I feel like when im it im exposed sometimes and have been walked on all over recently by someone only made me realise best form of protection is not to be so naive about ideas like mediatation etc

It's true. Something is wrong with modern society.
But the pendulum swing of culture will balance out in the long run, it's just our contextually short relative views that agonise over the hills and valleys. That's why real science fiction literature can be soooo good. Ursula le guin, Sheri S. Tepper, Cordwainer Smith, (and sooooo many more worthies) - potential pictures of societies run by different memes.
Philip K. Dick is the greatest at examining, dissecting, and subverting our commercially imposed contemporary anxiety.

(this just in response to your initial opening premise. As to the details...)

There is NO true self.
THE TRUTH OF THE 'SELF' IS THAT IT DOESN'T EXIST.

And yes, meditation takes you there. It's a practical tool.

You have the power to navigate life as you wish. Most people don't realise this for some sad reason.
It's just 'skillfull means.'

Great topic, good on you for thinking and sharing the results.

Edit.
Sorry, this was a drunken ramble. Stay tuned for more insightful responses from other members.

Maybe I would say it in a slightly different way.
What we try to put out there as ourselves for others to see is often created in our judgement of what others want us to be. If we don't trust what we think others want to see as something that we want to be then it makes us uncomfortable acting in those roles. Maybe the anxiety comes from the recognition that we have become exactly what others want and we don't like it. As children we naturally rebel at our elders childish behavior because we know it is juvenile. But withholding any other better examples we become what we despise.
Perhaps the anxiety stems from the fact that we have adopted unnatural learned behaviors from others and have become conditioned to play the roles that we know on the inside will only make us miserable in the end.
We are born with an ability to make good judgements, then learn to skew them to fit in with the norm. Those few people who are comfortable in their own skin are the ones that have not lost that inherited ability...
