A bear killed 2 and seriously injured six others. Now theyve found that the bear had rabies. More than 100 people are being vaccinated and authorities have declared a rabies alert. An ambulance which was sent to the scene was also attacked.

news.bbc.co.uk
The authorities in Brasov, central Romania, have declared a rabies alert after an infected brown bear killed two men and injured six others.
Brasov is under quarantine and a close watch is being kept on animals there.

The forested area on the edge of the city where the attack took place on Saturday is being sealed off.

Romanian television says doctors have started vaccinating more than 100 people who came into contact with the rabid bear or its victims.

One man died at the scene, the other died later. Since they now know that the bear had rabies, more of the injured can die and others can have been infected.

The strange thing is:
Yesterday, a 40 year old man (Johan Westerlund) was killed by a bear in northern Sweden.
It was the first time in 102 years that someone get killed in Sweden by a bear.

HMMM. Reports from the US earlier this year indicated that a new rabies mutation was transmissible without direct contact. Besides the transplant fiasco, a man in the South got rabies without any animal contact. The carrier was assumed to be a raccoon in the general vicinity.
