Cape Cod checking in.... windy here, gusts around 50 mph and lots of branches down. Just got home. Surf's up at the beach- some big rollers coming in and I expect there will be some coastal flooding, particularly overnight.

A friend in Staten Island just called to tell me she's safe in Harlem, and that there is some flooding taking place in Staten Island and other places.

ETA: Those other places are Coney Island, Long Island, and Rockaway.

I pulled this satellite image off of www.theblaze.com. Notice the eye of Horus looking on from the right. Since I can't post my own thread yet i thought this was a good place for this. If it needs moved please do so; but wow look at it! It is unmistakable.

I tried to post this earlier but could only get a link...

The guards in front of the tomb haven't left their post since 1938.

If this doesn't touch you, I don't know what will.

Are they somewhere that's supposed to be evacuated or have/expect to have severe weather warnings? If so, and they still stay put, that's actually not touching at all, it's pretty stupid. I thought you guys up there said this storm was supposed to be really bad everywhere in the NE?

For some reason people in the "Ocean State" think hurricane means lets go out with the kids and watch it. Like it's a spectator sport or something. We're just crazy up here.
I'm all set.
This house is old and has stood up to quite a few storms so ....whatever.

About 175,000 evacuated here, subways and airports closed down. It hasn't even really started and it's worse than Irene already. The news news is making me paranoid but I cant stop watching it.

Low tide ends about now so hopefully I won't be swimming the next time I post.

I'm curious as to the physics of the tide dropping while the water is being pushed by a natural water moving machine.

Hello ATS world first time posting, but I have been reading and researching numerous topics over the years. I know many are curious about the East Coast with Sandy approaching, and since i live about an hour upstate from NYC I can try to give updates before the power and internet goes. Right now the wind is howling and can feel it from inside the house and the rain is coming and going but is pretty fierce when it is raining, and to think this is only the beginning of the storm and its going to get much worse by night. I seriously hope everyone took the evacuations near coastal areas because this can be a bad one, and my thoughts are with the rest of my East Coast brothers and sisters.
