I make films and people know I'm into all weird # and also into very believable hoaxes and one guy sent this photo to our film's website...

He says he was sent it by a back-packing friend of his and he says its real but I do not know him or his 'mate'. He said it was taken in Indonesia a few weeks ago. And it seems too cool to be true but I thought you all here might like it... real or fake.

I think fake... but a nice one.

The body looks like a tree trunk and the face was added.

Pretty cool looking though.

I love fun photos like this. Even though I'm sure it's fake, if not, could you imagine that thing swimming up on you on vacation? I remember doing a research paper on nessy, the lochness monster when I was younger and there is an absurd amount of sea monster believers all over the world. Fake pic or not, I'm sure there's big water monsters out there somewhere, or atleast used to be.

Brilliant!! How did you find that out!? I thought it looked like fishermen...

I kind of knew it must be fake but I'm impressed you found the original so quick... was that using the 'photo-tracking' software?

A simple google reverse image search.
Under the images tab in google you will see a little grey camera icon on the right of the search box, click that and put in the URL of the photo you want to find.
It will find "similar images" too

dunno how you got so many layers in his av

Nice one Dave, I was about to tineye it, but as it was already determined a Hoax, no point

but it's funny seeing some people instantly assume photoshop, offering not reasoning. and since us humans know everything inch of this planet, anything I've never seen with my own eyes, must be fake. lol

That actually worked out better than tineye, tineye 0 results. odd.

I've never trusted google, but that looks like they might have got something right!
