It breaks my heart to hear that you had such a difficult childhood. I love my children so much that I just cannot imagine letting them go, or doing anything to have them taken from me. So sorry you had to go through all that!
I can certainly understand your quest for love now. I hope that you have someone close who can at least be supportive.
The cat's head is pretty interesting I think. Did it make you feel anything, besides tired? Were you comforted or afraid? Did it look solid or translucent? Did it look like a typical real domestic cat, or was it different in some way? I am really curious. Curiouser and curiouser.

I will not let my toes hang off the bed. Two people I know , one being my mother, swear when they were lying in bed there was someone grabbing their big toe . I know it is a silly fear, , but I do not want to meet a toe grabber! LOL
To OP.: In a sense we are all each of us alone and interacting with others.
Some of us have family, some do not . Friends can be closer than family. You have to reach out to people and take chances. It can be hard if your not used to socilaizing , but that can be overcome one step at a time. Find something that interests you, and meet other people with the same intersts. Old advice, but good advide, and least the people you meet will have conversation on seomthing you have in common.
As far as the cat do not know. When I was a kid, I saw a hand under my bed that was not attached to a body, at the same time there was the sound of a train. I was awake and never forgot that.
