I am of the opinion many people are allergic to things they are not aware of. The following list is all the things I am allergic to, they affect my respiratory system, body functions, etc.

Perfumes, colognes, bleach, dyes, polyester, makeup, fragrances, cocoa beans, mushrooms, nuts, deodorants, shampoo, hair dye, conditioner, shaving cream, ammonia, soaps, detergents, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, pet dander, dust, lotions, liquor, etc.

Chances are if it is man made without natural ingredients I am allergic to it. No, I am not a bubble boy, but there is not a day that I do not have to deal with one of the above, either come in contact with it through air exchange or by direct contact.

I am just curious if others have similar problems and are not aware of it.

Assess your daily situation, maybe you feel a certain reaction at times and are not sure why?

I am only allergic to milk. Throat swells a little, stomach cramps, then I throw it all up, and I feel like crap for about a day and a half.

I have always been a massive consumer of dairy products- milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. with no problems. A couple of years ago I started having big problems! Every time I consumed a dairy product it gave me severe gastro-intestinal flare ups. I thought maybe somehow I had become lactos intolerant, even though nobody in my family is.

I went to my family doctor and he sent me for a few tests and found nothing. He suggested that maybe I give organic dairy products a try. Guess what? I have no problems what so ever with organic dairy products! How can this be? I have come to believe that the hormones and chemicals they are giving cows to produce more milk (and thereby dairy products) are bad, bad, bad!

Now I consume all the dairy I want, it just costs me a little extra. No complaints though- it's worth a little more to avoid the pain, bloating, and general sick feeling.

Like littled16 and the organic dairy, I wonder how many things we are allergic to is the result of chemicals and environmental issues.

Like why it seems few were allergic to peanuts and now

Like how our immune systems are compromised because of modern diet. Too many additives fighting with our bodies natural abilities.

We also have a sort of immune system to fight parasites, like worms for exemple.
This system is left unused in our modern day clean lives and it is identified as the cause of allergic reactions.

There are people that actually have infected themselves with worms ( a pretty harmless species ) which actually worked, and realeaved them of their allergic reactions.

I'm not fully into the topic, but it's pretty interesting material.

I agree! All the chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, etc.- who knows what they are doing to us!

It brings to mind an old movie from the early 80s:

I wonder when we will all start shrinking...or much worse!

I knew this lady who had breathing problems, she used an oxygen tank daily, when I asked her why she said she had asthma. I asked her if she had been tested for allergies to certain things and she said no. I suggested she do this and see if maybe her asthma was related to certain products she had in her daily life. I found out from her several weeks later she wasn't wearing the oxygen anymore and why. Seems that she was very allergic to her make-up and this was causing her to breathe the way she was, she started using hypo-allergenic products and her breathing improved immediately, she also, decided to take my advice and eliminate bleach and ammonia from her cleaning. This is why I posed the question.

Thank you for the well thought out replies thus far, keep them coming!

This seems off topic to me. Being allergic to life is not an allergy, that is symptomatic of a different problem, I would go find someone to talk to that maybe can offer some comfort or give you a hug. Take care and keep your chin up.

Sincerely,

Thank you for your reply. How did you find out you were allergic specifically to just perfume?

when exposed to.I was born with an allergy to soap and have to
be very careful what I use.

How can you write about stuff you aren't aware of?

I know all the stuff I'm intolerant to: Everything except the darkest roasted, oiliest low acidity coffee (which has to be ground by me), organic milk, white or muscovado sugar, gluten-free lightly rolled oats, organic hand-churned butter, and unrefined Atlantic sea salt. I drink about a liter of water per day additionally. I don't know how long I'll be able to eat any of those either. The list shrinks without warning.

I grew up being intolerant to anything with wheat or any part of its family or their byproducts, even in minute quantities. I couldn't have anything with citric acid, natural or otherwise. I couldn't have eggs, soy, or peanuts or their byproducts, even in trace amounts.

A couple of years ago, carrots, potatoes, and rice were struck from the list with a thick red pen. I stick to what's on the list in the first paragraph of my reply here and I'm grateful for whatever I can eat anymore.

At 168cm tall and nearly 50 years of age, my weight is stable at 60kg. The lack of food is really improving my health rather than diminishing it. It's actually nice not to even have to think about foods now.

Perhaps my title was confusing to you, It was meant to alert people to the possibilities of allergies and for them to pay more attention to their bodies reactions to certain things, and maybe get checked out by an allergist. Also, I was looking for comments about them having experienced this already. I apologize, thanks for the reply.

Sincerely,

Well, additionally I'm allergic to trees, grasses (which accounts for a great deal of the food stuffs), molds, dust, dog and cat dander, feathers, and cockroaches. Makes a person wonder how they stay alive, doesn't it?

I was diagnosed when I was nine years of age with all those food allergies/intolerances/sensitivities. I had desensitization shots for two years. They said I could handle those things for maybe ten years without a problem but then I would need the treatment again, and again after that.

I didn't have the shots anymore after that. I cannot believe it's a good idea to trick the body. Those responses are produced for a reason. Why is it not the aim to find out why the response is there than it is to create a false sense of temporary normalcy?

Medical science is doing it wrong.
