According to the linked study, the shape of a mansurine stream can help determine flow rate and thereby his potential for prostate problems, which are normally an early warning sign of prostate cancer.

Wow, just in time, as I am getting older and would much prefer this method to the old "finger" of doom method, which is, as I'm told a good way to always feel uncomfortable around your doctor after words.

Nothing beats a good PSA.. no finger involved.
It has some limitations, but If the finger in the butt bothers you, get that first. Manual exam would be good if there is an indication on the PSA of an issue. MOST men already know if they are having prostate issues just by the urge to urinate with no joy AKA cant pee and frequent urination symptoms.. the prostate is enlarged. That isnt necessarily cancer.. the PSA begins the screening.. plenty of testing out there. You just thank your lucky stars you arent female...

I guess if I were a man, Id not trust the urine stream thing.
Any number of factors having NOTHING to do with the prostate can effect the shape of your stream.

If you HAVE to get a manual exam.. just think of Moon RIver. :

They don't actually tell you anything to look for. They just give an overall synopsis of what they found out. It's a small blurb anyway, so I think we can get by with quoting it.

Scientists at Queen Mary, University of London have discovered that the characteristic shape of a man's urine stream could be used to help diagnose urinary problems. The research, published in PLOS One today (16 October) is the first study to analyse the specific pattern a man's urine makes and whether it could be used to detect prostate problems. Co-author Dr Martin Knight from Queen Mary's School of Engineering and Materials Science explained: "The characteristic shape is due to the surface tension in the urine and the elliptical shape of the urethra. "The computer model matched perfectly to experiments in the laboratory and also with video data of human volunteers. There was an excellent correlation between the shape of the urine stream and the urine flow rate." The medical engineers at Queen Mary used 60 healthy volunteers and 60 patients to test whether self-measurement of the shape of the urine stream could be used to predict maximum urine flow rate. They found that a simple measurement of the characteristic shape of the flow pattern could accurately predict the maximum urine flow rate; important in the diagnosis of urinary problems such as those associated with prostate enlargement. According to Prostate Cancer UK, about four out of every ten men over the age of 50 (40 per cent) and three out of four men in their 70s (75 per cent) have urinary symptoms that may be caused by an enlarged prostate. Dr Knight said: "This research began as a student project when a team of urologists asked Queen Mary to come up with a simple non-invasive way of measuring urine flow rate that could be easily used at home where patient's urine flow rates are likely to be more typical than when urinating in hospital. "The current techniques, although very accurate, are difficult or expensive to use reliably outside of the clinic. This new approach may therefore represent a useful solution to this important medical engineering problem, allowing men to easily monitor their urine flow rate."

A home kit would be preferable to an office visit, but it'll probably be some time before that comes along.

We'll see that home kit a lot sooner than you think...if, Obamacare continues.

Sorry all didn't mean to post and run, I called away on an emergency, I had to go pick up the Jackdaniels from the store, I forgot earlier.

So ya, the story was kinda short on details other than, we men will soon have another option to the dreaded "finger of doom", we all fear after turning 40.

I am only 34 now, but at the rate the time is flying by, I will be there sooner rather than later.

Yeah, and probably a do-it-yourself surgical kit too.

I don't know if I will ever be able to handle the DYI surgical kit, but the home test sounds easy enough for me.

A lot better than the doctors office, I hate going there, and hospitals, they just smell like death or somthing to me, it creeps me out.

After many years of an trying to assemble the flow of various bits of data that came from unofficial observations, I can adamently state that the time of day would be critical to any assessment.

I would be willing to bet a lot of other factors have an input also such as belly fat, the length if not girth of the organ, how often the urge came about, how extended was the bladder and when the man last had an ejaculation. Perhaps all of those issues were taken in hand by the good doctors, but alas, we arent told here. We should know more in the years to come, I suppose as spy cams dominate out lives more and more..

One thing that I was remarking upon just today to a friend would perhaps also be a factor. This would be the observation by TV's George Constanza on Stinefield's show some years back about the dehumanizing "shrinkage" factor due to coldness. Surely, that would be an important consideration as a contributing factor to those in northern climes such as where this study was done and could put English gentlemen at a decidedly disadvantage in this affair as our men, if not women, of Science attempt to get a hold of the exact nature of this amazing phenomena and compare measurements with similar studies done in warmer parts of the world. Sadly, some would say that English men suffer enough already in this area.

My Urine stream is a beautiful golden arc, it does smell like Sugarpuffs however.
What does that mean?

The prostate consists of inner and outer components.

When the doctor examines your bottom they are feeling for cancer which predominantly affects the outer prostate.

Prostate cancer tends not to present with inner prostate or flow problems.

Flow problems occur more frequently with inner disease which is usually non-malignant.

If you volunteer for the blood test accept that you may need a biopsy via the back passage.

Most of the biopsies are negative but are painful and cause stress waiting for the result.

Even if the result of the blood test is positive the result of the biopsy is usually negative.

The benefit of an early diagnosis does not seem to affect long-term survival that much.

Flow studies are telling us what the patient already knows - his p**s hits his shoes and not the urinal.

The dilemma that is prostate cancer continues.

Try taking natural nutritional supplements for your prostate problems. With no side effects, its always better than doing any invasive procedure which may not even be needed. I have been taking Super beta prostate for the same problem and it worked fine for me. I mean, you hear of all the scams but Super Beta Prostate isn't one of them. It has all the vitamins and nutrients you need for a healthy prostate and for some reason increases your libido too. Which i don't think any man would have a problem with.Consult your doctor and try it.
