Greece considers hosting Syrian refugees

"Plans are underway to provide shelter on two Greek islands for 20,000 Syrian refugees, Greece's Public Order Ministry said on Thursday, while other officials said EU-level talks on the issue are ongoing.

The Conservative-led government of Antonis Samaras "foresees providing hospitality to 20,000 refugees from Syria who will be accommodated in special facilities on the island of Crete and Rhodes," the ministry said in a statement."

Excellent! As long as they don't get any funny ideas...

This whole thing is pretty fishy. First the air drill, now this. Do they know something, or are they just testing their old technology? Either way, it was a interesting catch.

Silly question - how will those refugees get to Greece? There is a sea in the way and Syrian navy would not allow foreign ships to pick refugees, air lift out of Assad control airspace is out of question.
Greece and Turkey (where majority of Syrian refugees are) are not best of friends.
So - how people will get there and how Greece that has economical issues can support 20000 people without shelter or jobs.

Sure. Of course. THEN they'll get International funding to "house" them.

Example: You cannot pay rent, you don't have quiet enough but your friends who are down on their luck and fighting in their home will come house with you, and the gov't will help pay them, to pay you.

Rough figures show that about half a million illegal immigrants have LEFT Greece since the crisis began there.

I don't have a problem with refugees being given help and taken in when they have nowhere else to go. We are all humans and we should be compassionate to one another in our time of need especially. Not that anyone has been compassionate to Greeks in their time of need created by crooked governments and banking mafias.

Greece has bigger issues on it's plate. Yet it is STILL offering to take in refugees and assist in a humanitarian crisis.

As long as these people return to Syria, and some crooked politicians in Greece don't grant them citizenship to gain some extra votes as they have done with hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in the past...


And yet again I must ask, WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH WORLD WAR THREE SCENARIOS?

I'm not sure Greece is in the position to be offering itself as a receiver of refugees - more a producer of them.

What are these people thinking?

Maybe they are inviting people who would consider Greece relatively stable compared to where they came from so people will see how bad things can be.

Where else are refugees from Syria meant to go?
Turkey doesn't want any more of them.
Cyprus can't handle too many.
Jordan cant handle any more.
Saudi Arabia is only interested in stirring religious tensions between Shia and Sunni.

A short ferry trip to Greece is the easiest solution.

The United Nations however, should be the ones baring the cost of this though.
And it's a piss poor effort by the United Nations for not stepping up to the plate earlier and arranging these sorts of things.


Greece though should say no, it wont accept any refugees, or accept 5,000 max, at an absolute maximum.
That way they all flood into Turkey.

This has several benefits for Greece.

1) Pay back for Turkey's involvement in the people smuggling trade which has flooded Greece with over a million illegal immigrants.

2) Refugees in Turkey will break the 100,000 barrier, which is Turkey's "red line". Once 100,000 is reached, it reserves the right to take military action to intervene directly into Syria. Therefore this will drag Turkey into a costly war, hurting Turkey. Turkey is an enemy of Greece, regardless of NATO membership. The West wants to drag Turkey into that war anyway, so Greece may as well help push things in that direction.

Yes, we've already turned to cannibalism. Those half a million or so illegal immigrants which are said to have left Greece, really we actually carved them up and put them on the BBQ.
