Really cool pictures. I for one am glad these two never evolved. I would hate to think we would have wasp's the size of Eagles and spiders the size of dogs. Here in the south we ahve wasp's we call Dirt Dobbers, their spider killers. They encase them with a wasp larvae in a mud/dirt tomb. The wasp eats the still not dead spider as it matures. These wasp's are my friends, spiders are not. I lost two fingers to a Brown Recluse bite when I was 14, Bite me between the little finger and ring finger on left hand, they were taken off to save my hand.

But I agree with other poster when they said looks as if they were teleported in time to us now. Has anyone ever found a bug or insect encased in amber?

I am still baffled and perplexed as to how these awesome moments are caught in amber, mid action. I have always been in awe over all the cases of living things caught in amber, coal, etc. How does that work?
This is no doubt an epic moment forever frozen.
Great find & share!

S&F!

That's what I was just thinking.

Reminds me of a scene in the film 'Ice Age' where this little scrawny squirrel critter is chasing down an acorn. Just as he's about to grasp it to his drooling mouth, Crack! He's frozen in a block of ice. Funny as hell.

100 million years old...? Doubt it..... Makes no sense at all...

Can you elaborate on this statement?

What part doesn't make sense?

edit on 9-10-2012 by AlphaHawk because: (no reason given)

100 million years ago spiders were supposedly way bigger than that

As humanity encroaches further and further into nature's realm, the more we see wild creatures becoming somewhat domesticated. The wildlife is adapting(evolving if you like), to humanities expansion.

I saw a large group of Buzzards last week over a highly populated UK city. Awesome.

What a SUPER find. S&F. I too wonder how they could've been frozen in time. I wish I could get that thing under a magnifying glass. It actually looks like part of the web is encased as well. Hard to tell for sure.

they certainly aren't perfect, everything could be "perfected"?

I was implying that maybe they are evolved to a point where they have all the tools and abilities to meet the demands of their current world. For now.

Almost perfect, but not quite.

This is awesome. Amber is a wonderful thing. I wonder if they could get DNA out of the amber they find?

Why does everyone think this was all instant and an action of both at the same time?

It is likely one was trapped and then a day or hours later another was. It could be the spider seen the trapped fly and thought it had a meal only to end up traped as well. Just like with the tar and the mammals of the past. Predator sees trap prey and ends up trapped themselves.
