Let me give you one possibility of our future domestic domicile.

Meant to revolutionize and maximize the square footage you have through a ingenious process of hidden doors and levers.

They turn a comfortable looking lounge area into a bedroom at the touch of a button.



Could this be the future of city living? We all have 500 square foot apartments that in reality can be 1500 square feet of usable living space.

With the growth of the global population and the increased desire to live in urbanized areas, I can easily see how design concepts such as this will be common place.

This ofcourse is not for everyone, and it only takes one incident of a kids trapping or injuring themselves in such a home to create concern. But i feel comfortable with the prospect of saving money and increasing my usable living space, especially when real estate is becoming ever more expensive and hard to find.

Think you could call something like this home?

That's pretty cool. I like it. I would live in one, well, if I live in the city.

Very neat stuff in my opinion.

The idea is cool, but who they hell can afford such things.

It's just too far out of the budget for the average person.

I could live in one of those for sure!

For a long time I lived in a studio apartment that was literally one room with a curtained off "bathroom" a mini fridge and a hot plate in another corner and a futon that served as seating and a bed - that was with one other person.

I guess if you had a larger family, especially with kids it would be very hard to live in one of those though.

Still, I think they are really neat

Some clever designing there, in a "bed of Damocles" kind of way.
Great way to make best use of what space you have.

Even though there are some clever features presented here, I do not like what creates the necessity for these features: The ever growing number of people on this planet.

So when it comes down to choosing between this clever apartment - that will be built into the skyscraper together with 27.000 more of them so my grand-grand son can move in someday in the not so far future - and living alone in the woods on my own ... I think I'd take the woods. Given there is high speed www-access that is.

It looks way too expensive for me.

I have seen building plans for getaway cabins using similar ideas, without the expensive fanciness.

O be honest I don't think it would be overly expensive. Of course this would incur some additional costs, lower property taxes though if this type of design was implemented into a stand alone house.

I don't know, but when I see a section of floor with the bed on it, dropping out of the ceiling, I see $$$$.

These designs are okay for a weekend getaway, but a lot of people are not going to like to tell their teenage children that have friends over to vacate the living room since it is about to turn into mom and dad's bedroom.

This isn't new.

Has no one ever seen the push up beds that fold into a wall? How about a sofabed?

All the guy has done is add some motors (which all require space too) and mechanics to make it all electrical. People (like me) who have lived in modest apartments or single rooms know all of this already, the only difference is that he's making it more expensive, more flashy, more labor intensive for installation and maintenance and more impractical than current solutions to space saving.

You can cram more into a single room with clever design, but unless he's managed to find a way to use alternate dimensions for storage of all the working parts he's not doing anything that people haven't been doing for decades already.

Very cool but I somehow missed the bathroom and kitchen. And what if wifey poo is sick in bed and hubby wants to stay in the living room while the kid is in it's "bed"? This is definitely for a single person or couples without children. And can you imagine if they had a power blackout? You could be stuck in bed for days I think these are great ideas for crowded city living, I would love something like this, off the grid and non electrical for course. Lots of springs maybe.

I think this is genius but as you mentioned, maybe not too safe with young kids around. Defintely cool for young adults though. The lounge area was really cool, I could easily chill in there for hours.

It's cool if you only ever need to use one room at a time. I'm sure there's a market for it with single rich bachelors.

It's pretty cool... but not for me. I prefer it out here in the boonies with my nearest neighbor half a mile away

I can spread out as much as I want, so space isn't a big issue for me, and I really, really like it that way

I'm with you. Lots of room to roam I currently live in a suburb with neighbors too close but my dream retirement place is a house in the middle of nowhere. My mom has a nice 1-story ranch sitting on 5 acres in the country. It's very nice and private. I like animals and there's just no room for cats and dogs in the tiny, cramped Yo Home. LOL Heck, I don't think a fish tank would work in that little hole in the wall.

This small apartment is most definitely not a place for kids! I suppose if you're single and living in an urban environment, it'd be great. I'm not an apartment type of gal.

But if I WERE to have to live in a small space, I prefer one of these tiny houses! Just because they're so darn cute.

Could totally imagine falling asleep on the couch and the roof becoming self aware and squishing me.
